WRIGHTSVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- At approximately 05:30Hrs. on Sunday April 20th, 41 fire units and mutual aid
were alerted to 108 Hellam Street at the Hometown Hotel & Bar for a reported Building Fire with Possible
Entrapment. Chief 41-1 arrived on scene with fire blowing from the Bravo Side on the 2nd Division and a
bystander reporting a possible patient on the 2nd or 3rd floor. A resident was unaccounted for later to be
found a block away with minor burns. All patients were self extricated prior to fire department arrival. The
fire reached 4 Alarms before being brought under control and the cause has been ruled arson.

MILLERSVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- On Monday April 21st, The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity Chapter at Millersville
University held its Buzz-A-Chi Event at the Student Memorial Center. Brothers from the Lambda Chi Alpha
fraternity shaved their heads and raised money for our little Brother Ian Swarr which was diagnosed with a
rare skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa when he was born. Now at 9 years old, Ian is in a daily battle
with pain and suffering as the disease continues to take its toll on our little brother. Members from
PUMPFIRE, Millersville Volunteer Fire Company and Rohrerstown Volunteer Fire Company answered the call
for help from the Lambda Chi Alpha brothers as Ian is a Fire fanatic and loves everything it's about. Crews
from Millersville & Rohrerstown displayed their apparatus as the event took place. Ian also received Fire
Department Shirts, Patches and Decals as the Brothers shaved their heads to help raise money for the
event. No official total was released as of yet, but was a great event for everyone that took part. A Special
thanks to Millersville & Rohrerstown Volunteers for their help of putting a huge smile on Ian's Face.

Buzz-A-Chi @ MU Gets Help From Volunteers. Lancaster County, PA 04.21.2008

LANCASTER CITY, PA -- Around 1450Hrs. On Monday April 21st, BOX Alarm 64 was transmitted to 321 North
Charlotte Street in the City for the reported house on fire. Communications advised city units of heavy
smoke showing from 321 North Charlotte Street, City units arrived moments later reporting heavy smoke
showing from a 2.5 story E/O/R Dwelling. Engine 2, 1, 3 and Tower 2 started an aggressive attack on the fire
after forcing entry into the house. Crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and high heat with no visible
fire. Interior crews reported the heat was increasing as the smoke got blacker and started to evacuate the
house. Command had Communication activate the EVAC tones as the house flashed over. Crews on the
Charlie Side reported a 10-15 foot fire ball from the rear bilco doors as they were opened. Command
transmitted the 2nd and 3rd Alarm as Crews quickly made a knock on the working basement fire with
extension to the 1st floor. No injuries were reported and the fire was placed under control in about 45

3 Alarm Fire Brings The Heat To The City, Lancaster County, PA 04.21.2008

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, NY- On Sunday afternoon, April 20, Lima Fire and EMS responded to a single car
accident with entrapment on Routes 5 & 20 just west of Livonia Center Road. Firefighters had to use the
"Jaws of Life" to extricate the driver and passenger from the vehicle, which struck a tree . They were
transported by Mercy Flight Central and Lima EMS to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Livingston
County and Livonia EMS Advanced Life Support also assisted at the scene. The Honeoye Falls Fire
Department stood by in the Lima fire station during the incident. The New York State Police and the
Livingston County Sheriffs Office were on scene, and continue to investigate the accident.

LITITZ BOROUGH, PA -- Early on April 24th, BOX
Alarm 25 was transmitted to 73 East Front
Street for the reported working house fire.
Communications advised units from 25(Lititz),
210(Rothsville), 22(Brunnerville) and
27(Neffsville) of multiple reports of a working
house fire with possible people trapped,
Tower 25 arrived shortly after wards reporting
heavy smoke showing from a 3 Story M/O/R
Dwelling and took command. The Crew from
Tower 25 Laid a supply line and deployed a
handline as E22-1 caught their own plug and
stretched a total of 4 Handlines into the row
home and exposure buildings. Crews
continued to work as the heat and smoke
increased and the attic area of the house
flashed over. Command requested add'l units
to assist with manpower and special services
throughout the incident. No injuries were
reported on the fire grounds as command
placed the fire under control in about 2 1/2

Lititz Goes To Work... Again, Lancaster County, PA 04.24.2008

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Tuesday, April 22nd, The BOX was transmitted to the area of 604 Fox Glove Drive
for the reported house on fire. Squrt 43 arrived reporting the address to be 602 Fox Glove Drive with heavy
fire showing from a 2 1/2 story woodframe S/F/D. All crews went heavy duty as Heavy fire overtook the house
and an Interior attack was no long an option. The fire was marked under control in about 2 hours with all

WARWICK TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Saturday April 26th, The PIC with one into a House was transmitted to the 700
Block Of Owl Hill Road. LCWC advised Engine Company 210 of a single vehicle crash with one reported into a
house. D/C 210 arrived confirming one vehicle into a house with (-)Negative injuries. Engine 210-1 and Squad
210 arrived shortly after wards and controlled hazards and checked the structure for major damage. All units

Mustang Vs. House, Lancaster County, PA 04.26.2008

STRASBURG TOWNSHIP, PA -- Around 2208Hrs, Strasburg Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for a PIC
class 2 in the Living waters parking lot at Hartman Station Road(Route 896) and the Pequea Creek. Upon
arrival Command 510 found a 2 vehicle crash on the south side of the building, upon investigating Command
upgraded the call to a PIC with entrapment due to a patient in a Sliver Jaguar trapped. Command then
Requested a 4th BLS unit which brought Ambulance 59 to the scene to help support the 7 patients that
needed transported along with Ambulances 43-1, 43-2, and 612-8 already on scene. Engine 510-2 and Squad
510 continued to work as command requested Rescue Squad 48 to the scene for manpower assistance.
There was a total of 8 patients that had minor injuries and 1 ALS patient that were transported. The
extrication of the patient was completed at 2243Hrs.

RADNOR, PA -- Just as the evening rush hour was getting to its peak a serious crash occurred on the blue
route north bound. Companies 15 and 53 were dispatched to the area of I-476 approaching the St. Davids
Exit. Units found a single vehicle accident with heavy damage to the rear of it. 2 victims were found with
serious injuries and aeromedical transport was requested for both. Pennstar 1 and 2 landed on the
northbound side just north of the accident scene. Crews from 15-2 assisted EMS with patient care and

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA -- Rescue 41 (Newtown Square) and 15 (Radnor) covering Newtown Square with the
engine 15-2 were dispatched around 1:00am for the accident in the area of St. Davids and Paper Mill Rd. 15-2
arrived shortly there after and found 2 patients that were injured. One of which was trapped in the back seat
requiring extrication. Rescue 41 arrived next along with EMS. The crews of 15-2 and Rescue 41 went into
service removing two doors on the passeneger side. 41-9A (Simpson) had St. Davids Rd command.

EPHRATA TOWNSHIP, PA -- Early on Monday April 28th, Lancaster County Communications Transmitted BOX
210 to the area of the 2300 Block Of Rothsville Road for the reported PIC involving a horse and buggy. Units
from Engine Company 210 along with EMS from 210(Rothsville) and Medic 12(Lititz) were advised of a Car vs.
Horse and buggy. While units were en route, Communications received a correct location of Main Street and
Rothsville Road in Ephrata Township making it a 12 Ticket. Communications recalled BOX 210 and
Transmitted the 12 BOX, Units from Engine Company 12(Akron) along with EMS from 112(Ephrata) and Medic
4(Ephrata Hospital) were advised of the car vs. horse and buggy at the intersection. D/C 12(Leisey) arrived
on scene reporting a single vehicle crash involving a horse and buggy with no injuries and had EMS
proceed into the scene non emergency. Engine 12-1 arrived and provided lighting as EMS crews did patient
check-ups. All units went ready in about 15 minutes after dispatch with no patients transported, luckily the

UPPER DARBY, PA -- At 0330 hrs on April 27th Companies 36, 37 and 26 were dispatched for the dwelling fire
at 121 Chatam Road. 36-9 arrived reporting heavy fire 1st floor front of a 2 story twin. Crews from Squrt 36 &
Quint 37 lead off with 1-3/4 water lines while crews from Ladder 26 vented. Interior crews made a quick knock
on the fire holding it to the 1st floor. 36-9 had requested the 2nd alarm for manpower, but quickly made them

SOUTH FARMINGDALE, NY -- Around 1400
hours, Nassau County Firecommunications
toned out the South Farmingdale Fire
Department for a house fire at # 15 Lyons
Court off Woodward Parkway. NCPD A 2368
was first arriving with heavy smoke showing
reported people trapped. E971 was first due
and laid out. The fire was well advanced prior
to FD arrival. Command quickly called for a
FAST from North Massapequa, an Engine from
the Village of Farmingdale, 1 Tower and 1
Engine from Bethpage. Bethpage Car 1 (Chief
of Department) came over the air with an
urgent, that the floor has collapsed and the
members are pulling out. At this time, there
was still heavy fire conditions in the
basement. This exterior operations called for
more crews to the scene. The front of the
house was cleared allowing 2 towers to put

EPHRATA BOROUGH, PA -- On April 30th, PUMPFIRE along with other local media agencies were invited to the
Ephrata Area Rescue Squad Station in Ephrata, PA. The Company invited the media to their house to display
to the public their new equipment acquired through grants and company funds to better serve the
community. During the 2006-2007 year, Ephrata Rescue Squad received two grants, one from Highmark Inc.
and one through a 2006-2007 PEMA grant. The company purchased one Metal Master Oxy/Acetylene cutting
torch, Various updated Confined Space/Rope Rescue Equipment, two KED extrication boards, one 24' ground
ladder and a 14' roof ladder to compliment the equipment on Rescue Squad 115. The company also
purchased through company funds a 2001 14' FSI inflatable boat to add to their water rescue services. The
new equipment shown is in service and ready to serve the community at anytime. The Ephrata Area Rescue
Squad is a 100% Volunteer Rescue Squad that serves all of the Ephrata area and beyond. The company
responds on about 100 call per year ranging from PICS w/Entrapment, Water Rescues and All Technical

Rescue Squad Acquires New Equipment, Lancaster County, PA 04.30.2008

WALKER TOWNSHIP, PA -- Mifflintown Hose Co.
No. 1 was on a vehicle accident at Rt 75 and
Old Rt 22, Walker Twp, Juniata County when
Juniata County 911 dispatched a second
vehicle accident at the intersection of Cedar
Spring Rd and Industrial Park Rd for an MVC,
two vehicles, with fire. Rescue 2 and Engine 2
immediately cleared the first crash leaving PSP
and fire police to handle traffic (roll-back was
just arriving) and responded to the crash with
fire. Rescue 2 arrived first with a vehicle, off
the roadway, fully-involved. Engine 2 arrived
approximately 30 seconds later. An 1-3/4"
handline was pulled off Engine 2 and quick
work was made of the fire. As the video starts,
the water was just hitting the fire. Co 1 (Port
Royal) was dispatched in place of Co 2
(Mifflintown) because Mifflintown was already
on a crash. Chief 2-3 advised county to let Co 1
continue in when they responded. Engine 1-1
and Tanker 1 arrived on scene and staged. In
the video you will hear the horn blowing. The
fire burnt the inside of the car and melted the
horn wires together. After a little bit of prying
the hood was opened and battery wires were
severed.

SUGAR GROVE, IL -- At around 1506 hrs. the Sugar Grove FD and neighboring Departments were alerted to
smoke coming from a duplex at 143 Meadows which was called in by the occupant at 141. SGFD Bat. 9 went
en route and immediately requested a General alarm response b/c of a large smoke column. Bat. 9 went on
scene with fire showing from the "B" side and heavy smoke from the "A" side. Engine 901 went on scene and
laid out. Engine 901 got a quick knock with the CAFS line and overhaul mode was initiated. The unit tenant
was not home at the time and no one was hurt. Units worked for about 2 hrs. and cleared.

General Alarm House Fire, Kane County, IL 05.02.2008

PALMER PARK, MD -- Just before 1530 hours, the box alarm was transmitted for the house on fire and people
trapped at 7618 Allendale Drive in Palmer Park. Engine Company, Tower Ladder, Chief and President 33
responded on the run with 12 volunteers. The remainder of the assignment consisted of Engines 8, 5, 30,
Quint 22 (as a Truck Company) and Truck 17. Chief 33 was the first to arrive and reported fire showing from a
two-story triple style row. He also established the "Allendale" Command. Engine Company 33 arrived, laid a
supply line in and stretched the Kentland front bumper line into the home. Tower Ladder 33, arriving
seconds behind the engine, placed multiple portable ladders and ventilated as the interior crew performed a
rapid primary search for the report trapped occupants. As the engine company extinguished the bulk of the
fire all searches turned up negative. A large amount of extension was also found in the front of the second
floor. Engine Company 5 was assigned as the exposure group and reported no extension into 7620 Allendale
Drive. Command scaled the incident back to Engine Companies 33, 8 and Tower Ladder 33 approx. 10
minutes into the incident. Within 20 minutes from the time of the initial alarm only the units from Kentland

Volunteers Battle First Due House Fire, Prince Georges County, MD 05.04.2008

EPHRATA BOROUGH, PA -- Around 1900Hrs on May 5th, Lancaster County Communications transmitted BOX
Alarm 15 to the Ephrata playhouse in the park at 304 Cocalico Street for the reported building on fire. Units
from Ephrata(15) and EMS(112) were advised of multiple 911 calls of a bathroom on fire to the rear of the
Playhouse in the park, Chief 15 arrived reporting a 1 story block building with smoke showing from all sides.
Engine 15-1 deployed 2 handlines from Side Alpha of the Playhouse to the building. As the line was being
flaked and put into place the canman from the wagon had all visible fire knocked down. Crews cleared the
smoke from the building and went ready in about 30 minutes.

Smoking Restroom Gets Some Quick Attention, Lancaster County, PA 05.05.2008

PENNSBURY TOWNSHIP, PA -- Station 25, Longwood Fire Company with MICU 25-1 & 2 responded to an
accident with entrapment on Route 926 at Cartmel Drive in Pennsbury Township, Chester County at 16:26
hours on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Chester reported a three vehicle PIC with blocking and fluids leaking.
They also advised of a Female trapped in a blue cavalier with a Fuel leaking from a 26 foot panel truck that
was covering the entire roadway. Rescue 25 went into service on arrival with hydraulic tools and the
extrication of the patient was completed at 16:59. The Patient was transferred by MICU 25-1 to the landing
zone at Crosslands and patient care was turned over to Penn Star who flew the patient to Christiana Hospital

WARWICK TOWNSHIP, PA -- The Technical Rescue BOX was transmitted on May 8th to 25 Earl Lane in Warwick
Township for the reported elderly patient down an embankment with a scooter on top of him. Crews from
Engine Company 210, Rescue Squad 115 and EMS from 210, Medic 4 Arrived to find the patient just over 30
feet down an embankment with a pretty steep grade. EMS had made patient contact. 210 and 115 crews went
down to assist with a backboard and stokes basket. Remaining RS 115 members began to build a 3:1 haul
system to the rope that was attached to the stokes. 210 lowered a 14' roof ladder down the embankment to
assist with traction on the ascent. RS 115 tied the ladder off to our anchor point. Another rope was lowered
to assist with the crew coming up the hill. The rope system was used to assist in bringing the stokes back up
the hill. The patent was transported by ground by EMS and all units went ready in about 30 minutes.
