BOWIE, MD -- At 2054 hrs units from Bowie and surrounding areas were dispatched to 15605 Peyton Court for
a reported house fire. Moments later units from Company 43 (Bowie) arrived on the scene of a 2-story single
family home with fire from the first floor garage area. Units immediately went to work as command advised
fireworks were igniting in the fire area. As the fire attack was taking place Company 33’s second crew was
transferred to company 43’s quarters aboard Engine 332, this left an additional Engine and a Tower Ladder
crew at Kentland 33. As Engine 332 with a crew of 3 approached Company 43 they were placed on a special
alarm to report to the fireground. The crew arrived and parked the unit out of the way, grabbed tools and
reported to the command post. As the members approached the home, fire could be seen from the roof area
and the evacuation tones were sounded in order to regroup initial alarm units. The volunteers reported to
command and were immediately put to work inside the structure. The crew advanced a handline into the
home and worked diligently to open up the walls, ceilings and all void spaces to extinguish the remaining
fire in the second floor area. Engine 332 operated for just over an hour before being released by command.

Crews Work Job In Bowie, PG County, MD 08.02.2008
Smoke Showing On Arrival, PG County, MD 08.02.2008
LANDOVER, MD -- At 1947 hours, the box alarm was transmitted for the house on fire at 3600 63rd Avenue.
Engine 331, 332 and Tower Ladder 33 responded on the run with a total of 13 volunteers. Engine 331 arrived
on the scene and reported a one-story, detached home with smoke showing. The corrected address was
also found to be 6222 Landover Road. As the wagon driver positioned to take his own hydrant in front, the
remainder of the crew stretched the 250-foot pre-connect. Engine 332 arrived, remaining third due and
positioned to stretch from a secondary hydrant to the rear of the home. The Tower Ladder arrived next and
they went to work performing searches and ventilation. Crews from Kentland found a kitchen off and
extinguished the same. Extension was found into a portion of the ceiling and wet down as well. Acting Chief
9B arrived, assumed command and held the units from Kentland 33 to overhaul the effected areas. Units
from Kentland returned to service within 35 minutes.

One Trapped On Route 50, PG County, MD 08.02.2008
GLENARDEN, MD -- At 0758 hours units were dispatched to the John Hanson Highway in the area of the
Capital Beltway for a reported accident with one person trapped. Engine 282 arrived on the scene with a
corrected location of the ramp from Route 50 to Martin Luther King, a single car into a tree with the drivers
legs pinned. Engine 331’s crew assisted with EMS care and worked along with Rescue Squad 1 (Hyattsville)
to free the victim. Engine 281 (West Lanham) pulled a protection hose line and stood by. Units returned to
service shortly after the victim was freed.

GUSTAVUS TOWNSHIP, OH -- At 1848 Trumbull Co 911 received a call for fire showing from a barn at 8183 St
Rte 193. Station 26 (Gustavus Twp), Station 29 (Johnston Twp.), Station 33 (Kinsman Twp) and Station 25
(Greene Twp) responded on the 1st alarm assignment. At 1855 Chief Rod McNeely arrived onscene reporting
fire showing from the roof of the barn, Engine 26 arrived next and took the driveway, followed by Engine 29
taking the end of the driveway as the water supply engine. Tankers 25,29,26,33 arrived shortly after. Crews
went to work on an aggressive interior attack via set of interior stairs. Other units were assigned some truck
work on the roof, pulling the metal roofing. Due to extreme heat and high winds, command special called
Station 19 (Vernon Twp) and Station 38 (Mecca Twp) for manpower for the extended overhaul operations.
Units operated onscene till 2130 hrs.

Working Barn Fire, Trumbull County, OH 08.02.2008
WARWICK TOWNSHIP, PA -- Around 1645Hours on Sunday August 10th, BOX Alarm 210 was transmitted to 14
Sherri Lane for the reported building on fire. Companies on the first alarm assignment were advised of a
working outbuilding behind the residence with PD reporting a shed well off. Chief 210-2 reported smoke
showing from 1 mile out and arrived shortly afterwords confirming a shed well off. Engine 210-1 arrived and
quickly deployed one 1.75" hand line and went to work to put a quick knock on the now destroyed shed.
Command held Engine Company 210 along with Tankers 22, 27 and Tower 25 for a quick mop up of the
incident. Crews went ready in about 30 minutes.

Working Outbuilding Fire, Lancaster County, PA 08.10.2008
WEST EARL TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Wednesday, 08-13-2008 at approximately 0154 hrs West Earl Fire Company,
Rothsville Ambulance and a Medic Unit was dispatched to the 4200 Blk Oregon Pk (West Earl Twp) for a
class-1 vehicle crash. It was reported as a single vehicle crash -- car into a tree. The vehicle appeared to
have been south bound on Oregon Pk and veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The
driver was removed from the vehicle by fire and ambulance personnel and transported to a local hospital for
treatment.

One Into A Tree, Lancaster County, PA 08.13.2008
PARKSIDE PA -- At 6:35 a.m. on August 11, 2008, an alarm was struck for a building fire at 2610 Edgemont
Avenue in Parkside Borough. Upon dispatch, police were already reporting a working fire on the second
floor, of the two story business home. The fire was at Royal Exterminating, and fire was coming out of the
second floor, front windows. Sent to the scene were fire companies from Parkside, Garden City, Green
Ridge, Upland, Lima, and RIT Team from Holmes. First to arrive were crews of TAC 45 from Parkside, and they
immediately reported heavy fire from the second floor. Engine 65 from Garden City was given orders to come
to the front of the building and assist the interior crews with fire attack. Crews lead off with two 1¾ attack
lines and made the way to the second floor. Parkside set up Parkside Command within three minutes. The RIT
Team, Rescue 43 from Holmes Fire Company arrived and set up to stand by. Crews from Truck 63, from Green
R idge, were given orders to go to the roof and start ventilation. Crews worked the roof to cut a hole and
also take windows to ventilate the building. At the 20 minute mark, Command reported that the bulk of the
fire was knocked down. Interior crews requested the thermal imaging camera, to check for extension, while
cover companies were put into place for those on scene. Crews worked for some time on overhaul, and
clean-up. Companies were made available from the seen, as crew’s cleaned equipment and wrapped up.

Fire Showing On Arrival, Delaware County, PA 08.11.2008
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- In the late evening hours units with the Second and Third Battalion were alerted
for a report of smoke in the apartment building at 3900 D St. SE. Engine 30 arrived on the scene of a 4 story
garden apartment building with smoke showing from the top floor and a person in the window. As the crew
advanced the 1 ½” attackline to the fourth floor the officer relayed to incoming Truck Companies that a
victim was trapped in a fourth floor apartment. With Truck 17 out of service for a customer service venture,
this put Truck 13 first due and Truck 16 second due. As Engine 30 tried to gain entry into the fire apartment
they were met with a large pile of debris that had been stacked behind the door. With fire conditions and
heavy smoke issuing from the door the crew managed to force their way into the fire apartment. Once inside
the crew found a large pile a furniture and a living room on fire. The Lineman quickly knocked down the fire
as the officer and layout began ventilation. The crew worked their way to the back bedroom and located an
unconscious victim inside the room. As the layout man(Hoagland) continued with hydraulic ventilation the
lineman (Santos)and officer (Kuhn)removed the victim from the apartment and passed him to awaiting
firefighters in the interior stairwell. As the victim was taken to the EMS care of Ambulance 30 the crew of 30
Engine returned to the hoseline and continued the job. The remainder of searches proved negative.
Ambulance 30 was able to revive the unconscious victim and was later transported to an area hospital. Job

One Rescued From Apartment Fire, DCFD 08.12.2008
EPHRATA TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Tuesday August 19th, The Rescue local was transmitted to the area of East
Mohler Church Road and Ridge Avenue In the Township for the reported PIC with people trapped. Units from
115, 15 and EMS from 112 and Ephrata Hospital's Medic 9 were advised of a single vehicle crash, vehicle into
a tree with one patient still inside the car. Police Department arrived reporting (-)Negative Entrapment with a
single vehicle into a tree. Rescue Squad 115 arrived moments later confirming PD's report of no entrapment
and worked on controlling hazards as Engine Company 15 arrived. Crews remained on the scene for about
15 minutes before going ready with no other injuries reported.

EAST EARL TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Thursday August 21st around 0530 Hours, BOX Alarm 36 was transmitted to
1551 Main Street in East Earl Township for the reported barn on fire. With units on the first alarm assignment
being brought up, D/C 36 was in the area reporting to communications a working barn fire and transmitted
the 2nd Alarm Assignment. Crews arrived reporting a large 50 x 60 barn well off with multiple exposures and
hazards inside the barn. All hands went to work as the Tanker Companies started a shuttle water to the
scene to supply units going heavy duty. Crews remained on scene for about 4 hours with one fireman being
transported to Ephrata Hospital for a medical problem.

Working House Fire, Delaware County, PA 08.12.2008
CITY OF CHESTER, PA -- Shortly before noon on Tuesday August 12th, Companies 82, 81, Chester 11 and
Crozer Medic 81 were dispatched to the area of 10th and Upland and 11th and Upland for a reported building
fire. Chester 11 arrived to find a vacant dwelling in the 1000 block of Upland with medium smoke showing.
821 laid in and pulled a 1 3/4 line for a quick knock down. Tower 82 opened up and Squrt 81 picked up the
plug and assisted with overhaul. Fire was knocked in the first 10 minutes and companies were made
available within an hour.

CITY OF CHESTER, PA -- On Wednesday August 13th at 1042hrs. Company 82, Chester 11 and Crozer Medic 83
and 100 were dispatched to I 95 North at Melrose Ave for the Accident with entrapment. Chester 11 arrived
first to find a single car accident with entrapment. Crews from Company 82 stabilized the car and went to
work with the rescue tools to remove the roof to free the subject. Once the roof was off the crew assisted
the medics with patient packaging for transport to Crozer Trauma Center. Extrication was complete in 15
minutes, companies were available a few minutes later.

BLAIR COUNTY, PA -- Station 21 (Tpton), Station 22 (Excelsior No.1 of Bellwood), was dispatched on a 2
vehicle MVA with injuries and possible entrapment. Wile the departments were manning, chief 22-01 went
direct along with assistant chief 21-02. 22-01 upon arrival reported to communications confirming entrapment
in the gold vehicle. Rescue/Engine 22-31 went responding within minutes with a crew of 7 followed quickly
by engine 21-11. Rescue/Engine 22-31 arrived on scene and initiated operations of stabilization, and the
manipulation of the vehicle, along with fluid control. Engine 21-11 also lended a hand with fluid control, and
debris clean-up, along with lending ahand with stabilzation. The patient was soon then extricated without any
further issue. Rescue/Engine 22-31 cleared soon after scene was secure, and the scene was left with 21-11
and 21-01/2102 with command. All units returned without any further incident.

One Trapped On I-95, Delaware County, PA 08.13.2008
Head On Crash w/One Trapped, Blair County, PA 08.20.2008
TAYLOR COUNTY, WV -- At 17:27 hours, Taylor Company 30 (Flemington VFD), Harrison Engine 21 (Bridgeport
VFD), and Marion Engine 151 (Boothsville) were alerted for a Structure Fire at the Brier View Apartment
Complex just outside of Harrison County on US Route 50. Flemington VFD Engine 302 hit the street shortly
after. HC911 advised that tenants reported heavy smoke conditions on the 2nd floor and were receiving
multiple calls of a working fire. At that time, Command 30 transmitted a 2nd alarm assignment consisting of
Harrison Engines 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), 121 (Stonewood VFD), Tower 10 (Shinnston VFD), and Taylor Engine
101 (Grafton VFD). Engine 72 (w/6) and Squad 7 (w/3) hit the street 1 minute after dispatch. Engine 302,
Bridgeport VFD Engine 22, Truck 2, and Unit 25 arrived on scene with nothing apparent but reporting that the
windows on the 2nd floor were black and that residents were reporting a fire in one of the 2nd floor units. At
that time, Command 30 requested all other responding units to stage in the lower parking lot. E302 hit the
plug at the entrance to the complex and hooked up to E22 and hooked in to Truck 2. Crews advanced 1 3/4
handlines to the 2nd floor and were able to make a quick knock on the fire containing it to 1 1/2 units within
25 minutes. Engine 121 was then assigned to transfer to Co. 30. Units in staging included Flemington Engine
301, Tanker 30, Grafton Engine 101, Nutter Fort Engine 72, Squad 7, Boothsville Engine 155, Bridgeport
Squad 2, and Flemington EMS Ambulance 308. There were no injuries reported on the fire ground and the
blaze caused minimal damage to the structure. Even though Co. 7 units were never put to work we were still
the 3rd arriving engine and made good timing even with our extended 14 minute response time due to road
work. On a side note this month NFFD has responded to a 3 alarm fatal apartment fire in Marion County, a
room and contents fire, a abandon house fire, and a shed fire along with a transfer to Marion County.

WERNERSVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- On Friday August 15th, Companies 31(Wernersville), 51(SinkingSpring), &
43(Lower Heidelberg) of the 94th fire district, were sent to Werner & Williams streets in Wernersville
borough for the vehicle fire. Deputy 31 immediatly arrived and reported a working engine compartment fire.
Lieutenant 31-1 put multiple dry chemical extinguishers in service, courtesy of homeowners in the area,
prior to the arrival of apparatus to keep the fire in check. Engine 31 arrived, the 1.75" bumper line was pulled
and the fire was knocked in 2 minutes. The assigment was downgraded to the Wernersville volunteers. The
engine went ready in about 30 minutes after the tow removed the vehicle.

2 Alarm Apartment Complex Fire, Taylor County, WV 08.12.2008
Working Vehicle Fire, Berks County, PA 08.15.2008
KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MICH -- Just after 1600hrs on 8/25/08 units from Kalamazoo Twp Stat.2 and Stat.1
along with initial aid from Comstock North FD were dispatched for a reported apartment fire at Big Bend
Apartments in the 2200blk of Gull Rd. Units that responded were E812, Tower/Ladder842, E811(Northwood),
and E912(Comstock North). E811 as it was leaving its station about 4miles away reported heavy black smoke
in the area of the apartments. E812 arrived on scene with a 2 story apartment building with heavy smoke and
fire showing thru the roof. DC892 took command and had T/L842 setup on the A side and use it to knock
down the bulk of fire before sending crews interior. E811 arrived and laid 5in from the hydrant to feed 842.
Once 842 had the bulk of the fire knocked, crews went interior to finish extinguishing the fire and begin
overhaul. Fortunately, there was no one in the building at the time of the fire. Crews had the fire knocked
down within 45mins. and they remained on scene for about 2 more hours for overhaul. No injuries were
reported. The cause is still under investigation by the fire marshal.

Apartment Bldg. Well Off Upon Arrival, Kalamazoo County, Mich 08.25.2008
SEAT PLEASANT, MD -- Around 2100 hours Tower 33 was dispatched as the second due truck for the house
on fire in the area of Shady Glen Drive and Shady Glen Terrace in Seat Pleasant. Moments later Chief 8
arrived with a corrected address of 7605 Walker Mill Drive and advised of a 2 story cape cod with fire
showing from the second floor. Tower 33 arrived with other units and assumed first due responsibilities and
split its crew. The Officer and Barman forced the front door, located the fire and conducted the primary
search of the entire house as the engine companies waited for water. Meanwhile the Driver and Canman
threw 5 ladders, vented the windows and roof, and ran lights. Once the fire was knocked down the crew
began to open up the house finding significant extension. After approximately 20 minutes Command scaled
back the incident to Engine 372, Engine 51, Tower 33 and Rescue Squad 8. The Volunteers from Kentland
operated for one and a half hours before returning to service.

Working House Fire, Prince Georges County, MD 08.26.2008
EAST COCALICO TOWNSHIP, PA -- Early On Thursday August 28th around 0255Hours, The Rescue local was
transmitted to the area of Route 222 North Bound at Route 322 in Ephrata Township for the reported PIC with
one trapped. Units from Rescue Squad 115, Engine Company 15 along with EMS units from 112 and Ephrata
Hospital's Medic 4 were advised of a single vehicle crash with one overturned and one female patient still
inside. Patrol car 78-7 arrived in the area on Route 222 North and Church Street in East Cocalico Township
confirming one vehicle on its roof with one still inside. Communications then Re-Transmitted the Rescue
local as a 17 Rescue BOX adding Engine Company 17, Rescue Squad 13 and Ambulance 17 to the assignment.
Chief 15-2 arrived moments later confirming PD's report as Rescue Squad 115 and Engine 15-2 went to work
on the vehicle with EMS treating the female still inside. EMS personnel then assisted the female patient that
self extricate herself from the overturned vehicle and transported her to Ephrata Hospital. Command
re-called the add'l units on the Rescue Local as Companies 115 and 15 wrapped up operations.

No Tools Required, Lancaster County, PA 08.28.2008
MOUNT CLARE, WV -- At 22:15 hours on August 31st, Company 5 (Mt. Clare VFD), Engine 31 (Lost Creek VFD),
and Engine 12 (Anmoore VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on Hutchinson Hollow Road in Mount Clare.
Engine 52 hit the street 3 minutes later and arrived on scene advising HC911 of a 2 story dwelling with fire
showing from the 2nd floor. Command 5 then requested Nutter Fort VFD Engine 71 and Tanker 7 to be
alerted. Meanwhile, 52’s crew stretched a 1 ¾” attack line to the 2nd floor and put a quick knock on the fire
containing to the bedroom, attic space, and hallway. E71 (w/6) and Tanker 7 (w/2) hit the street seconds later
and arrived on scene as the 4th due engine and was assigned to the 2nd floor to assist in extinguishing the
fire, ordered to set up 52’s extension ladder on Side B of the structure, and were also ordered to begin
salvage and overhaul. By this time, LCVFD E31 had already arrived on scene as the 2nd due engine and
stretched a 2nd 1 ¾" attack line up to the 2nd floor backing up 52's crew. LCVFD Tanker 3 supplied 52 with
water while Tanker 7 was ordered to stage at Co. 5. Crews pulled down all the ceiling and opened up all walls
and doused the room again and using 71’s TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera), crews made sure there were no
hotspots remaining. Crews assisted in helping Co. 5 cleaning up from the fire and were released at 00:18. A
FANTASTIC JOB was performed by the first in crew who knocked down most of the fire within minutes and
saved the house!
