CAERNARVON TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 10:06 AM Rescue Squad 69 was alerted to assist Lancaster County Station
34 (Churchtown) for an auto accident with entrapment. The location was reported to be at the intersections
of Twin County Road (Route 10) and Ash Rd. Rescue Squad 69 arrived with 8 volunteers and found a single
vehicle that rolled down over the embankment with two subjects still trapped inside. Crews went to work
with removing all the doors and roof. The rescue Squad's crew and the Engine company from 34 removed

Squad Company Hops Border To Extricate Two, Lancaster County, PA 08.02.2009

BARTON, MD -- On 8/3/2009 at 1104 hours, Allegany County dispatched Box Area 19-3 Laurel Run Road in
Barton for a house fire. Engine Company 19, Engine Company 20, Engine Tanker 22, Truck 24, and Tanker 36.
Engine Tanker 22 responded with 6 volunteers with Deputy Chief 22 (Kight). Dispatch advised responding
units that the caller said smoke was coming from the residence. Engine Rescue 20 arrived on the scene and
reported a working fire. Allegany County put out the working fire assignment. Full company responses out of
Stations 19, 20, 22, and 24, along with Squad 18, Tanker 18, and EMS 50. Engine Tanker 19 arrived on the
scene and established the Laurel Run Road Command. Command initially gave Engine Tanker 22 the
assignment of ventilation for the crew and for the Tanker to drop the water in the dump tank. The Engine
Tanker would be involved in the water shuttle for a water supply. The crew was going to begin working on
ventilation, but was advised by command to assist with fire attack. The 22 crew made entry into the 1st floor
on side bravo. The crew began opening up the interior walls and ceilings for the fire attack crew already in
the residence. The crew opened the ceiling up very quickly allowing the fire attack crew to knock down the
fire within minutes. The fire was quickly extinguished and the overhaul process began. It appeared that the
fire started on the rear kitchen outside wall area. The fire progressed up through the kitchen and into the
attic space. The crew began checking the remaining area of the house for fire extension. The fire did not
extended very far into the rest of the home. However ceilings and walls were pulled to check for extension.
A firefighter was able to rescue a cat, alive, from inside the residence during overhaul operations. Additional
Units on the scene were: Tanker 20, Utility 20, ER 19, Engine 221, Brush 36, Engine Tanker 14, Engine Rescue
23, Garrett County Tanker 86 and FM 25 (Chapman). Units remained on the scene for a couple hours. Engine
33 was called to transfer to Station 22, however while en route to Station 22, Mineral County dispatched a
brush fire in Company 33's area. Engine 33 responded back to Keyser for the call. Engine Rescue 23 was
released from the fire scene on Laurel Run Road to Stand By at Station 22. While at the station, Engine
Rescue 23 handled an ambulance assist call on Wood St in Westernport.

Second Job With-In Eight Hours, Allegany County, MD 08.03.2009

MIDLAND, MD -- On 8/3/2009 at 0349 hours, Allegany County dispatched Engine 18, Squad 18, Tanker 18,
Engine Rescue 20, Tanker 20, and EMS 55 for a House Fire on Lower Georges Creek Road south of Midland.
Dispatch advised the first units on the air, that they have had several calls on this fire already. Engine
Rescue 20 and Engine 182 arrived on the scene and found a single story residential dwelling well off.
Command requested the working fire dispatch. Chief 18 (J. Cutter) had the lower georges creek road
command while J. Monahan had operations. The working fire dispatch at 0359 hours brought Engine Tanker
19, Engine 171, Engine 162, Engine Tanker 14, Engine Tanker 22 (RIT), Squad 16, EMS 53, and Engine Rescue
2 to transfer to Station 18. Tanker 36 and Garrett County Tanker 86 were picked up on the assignment due to
failed responses. Engine Tanker 22 responded with 6 volunteers and Deputy Chief 22 (Kight). Engine Tanker
22's crew was given the RIT assignment. The crew set up for RIT and then supplemented several additional
outside duties. Part of the crew assisted with laddering the building and other members of the crew were
assisting with lighting. Once those tasks were completed the crew assisted with outside ventilation for the
safety of the interior crews. The southside crew as later utilized for Salvage and Overhaul operations as well
as extinguishing hot spots. While the crew was overhauling the house, the crew came across the family dog
still inside the burnt home. The crew removed the deceased animal from the house for the family. Allegany

Heavy Fire On Arrival, Allegany County, MD 08.03.2009

BLAIR TOWNSHIP, PA -- Stations 40,60,20,10,30,50,70, and 86 were dispatched on BOX alarm 20-08 for a
reported structure fire on RT 36 in Blair Township. Engine / Rescue 40-31, Pumper / Tanker 40-21, Tanker
40-22, and QRS 40-41 responded on the call 40-01 responded direct on the call. Station 60 responded Heavy
Rescue 60-31 for the R.I.T. Team. Station 20 responded Engine 20-11 and Engine / Rescue 20-31 20-01
responded direct on the call. Station 10 responded Engine 10-11 and Engine 10-12. Station 30 responded
Tanker 30-21. Station 50 responded Tanker 50-23. Station 70 responded Tanker 70-21. Station 86 responded
Tanker 86-22. Not long after all units went responding Blair county 911 stated that Blair Township Police is on
scene and is reporting fully involved. shortly after 40-21 and 40-31 arrived on scene 40-31s crew pulled two 1
1/2 hand lines and made entry from the back side of the structure not long after crews made entry into the
structure a mayday call was send out over the radios 2 of our firefighters had fallen throw the floor EMS was
called over to check out one firefighter while the other was denying EMS care. 40-41s crew was requested to
shut the roadway down at RT 36 and Brooks boulevard Road. After a few hours crews had the blaze
extinguished. After overhaul 20-01 released 40-31, 40-21, 40-22, and 40-41. Engine / Rescue 40-31, Pumper /
Tanker 40-21, Tanker 40-22, and QRS 40-41 was back in service and available.

Mayday x2 During House Fire, Blair County, PA 08.07.2009

LEACOCK TOWNSHIP, PA -- Around 0830 Hours on Friday August 14th, BOX Alarm 43 was transmitted to
Leacock Woodcraft at 54A Old Leacock Road for the reported barn on fire. Units on the first alarm BOX were
advised by Lancaster County Communications of multiple calls of a barn on fire, with the owner also
reporting his business on fire. Units arrived with heavy fire showing from the 2 story barn. Command quickly
transmitted the second alarm as Tankers set up to shuttle water. The fire was marked under control in about
1 hour with the balance of the second alarm BOX scaled back. No injuries were reported as units cleared the

Second Alarm On Arrival, Lancaster County, PA 08.14.2009

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH, PA -- On Friday August 14th, BOX alarm 39 was transmitted to 146 East Franklin
Street at the New Holland Apartments for the reported Apartment on fire. Units on the first alarm were
advised by Lancaster County Communication of a stove on fire in Apartment 207 with the occupants advised
to get out and activate the fire alarm. Ambulance 39-1 arrived behind their quarters to report nothing
showing from the exterior as Chief 39-2 arrived. Chief 39-2 was then advised by personnel on scene of a
heavy smoke condition on the second floor with a working fire in the apartment. Tower 39 along with Engine
39-2 arrived moments later going to work. Interior crews reported the sprinklers had activated and kept the
fire in check as crews mopped up hot spots. Command held the assignment for about 1.5 hours before
scaling it back to 2 & 1. No injuries were reported with multiple apartments receiving damage from smoke

LEACOCK TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Tuesday August 18th, During a lighting storm, BOX Alarm 44 was transmitted to
the area of Old Philadelphia Pike and Cattail Road for the reported barn on fire. As the BOX Alarm was being
transmitted, Chief 44 arrived reporting a large wood frame barn well off and requested the Second alarm be
transmitted. Crews worked through the storm as fire over took the barn. Companies on the alarm worked for
hours to control the blaze.

BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 13:42 Rescue Squad 39, Tower 39, and Squad 39 respond to assist Station 33
(Bowmansville Fire Company) and Ambulance 319 (Fivepointville Ambulance) with an injured person. The
patient was 70' up on a ledge in a stone quarry. Crews immobilized the patient and placed him in a stokes
basket. The basket was lashed to the aerial platform and taken to the ground. The patient was transported
via Penn Star air medical to a local trauma center. Units cleared at 15:07.

Technical Rescue w/Flt Out, Lancaster County, PA 08.19.2009

HAYCOCK TOWNSHIP, PA -- At approx. 3:45 a.m., thursday morning, the Richlandtown Fire Co. #1 (BUCKS
COUNTY STA. 36)provided a full assist to to Sta. 63 (HAYCOCK FIRE CO.). Numerous calls reported a working
barn fire in the area of thatcher rd. and old bethlehem rd. Chief 63 arrived o/s at the corrected address of
578 Old Bethlehem Rd. and reported heavy fire with 2 cars and a dwelling as exposures. A tanker task force
( 5 addt'l tankers) was immeadiately requested. Engine 63 and Tanker 63 were first o/s. Tanker 36 and
Engine 36 were right behind them. After some confusion as to what tanker 36's assisnment was supposed to
be, Tanker 36 dropped their fold-a-tank and proceded around the fire scene and came in from the opposite
side due to wires on fire, down in the street. Engine 36 laid in from the intersection of Thatcher and Old
Beth. Rd. to the scene ( approx 1500 ft of 5in. supply). Chief and Asst. Chief 36 established water supply at
the intersection. Engine 17 (QUAKERTOWN FIRE CO. #1) was assigned to draft from Tanker 36's pond and
supply Engine 36. Tower 18 ( QUAKERTOWN WEST END ) and Squrt 18 manpower to the scene. Tanker task
force consisted of Tanker 56 ( Richland Twp. Fire and Rescue), Tanker 58 (Trumbauersville Fire Co. ), Tanker
49 ( Ottsville Fire Co. ), Tanker 27 ( Sellersville Fire Co. ), and Tanker 23 ( Dublin Fire Co. ). Addt'l units also
on scene were Engine 40 ( Springtown Fire Co. ), Engine 26 ( Perkasie Fire Co. for remote fill site for
tankers) and numerous dept. chiefs. All units were released at around 8 a.m. One firefighter suffered a
twisted ankle then went into respiratory distress enroute to the hospital. Unkown of his condition. 3 ALS

EPHRATA TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Sunday August 23rd, BOX Alarm 12 was transmitted to 135 Bethany Road for the
reported barn fire in Ephrata Township. Units on the first alarm were advised of a large outbuilding well off
with exposures to a barn and home. Engine Company 12 went heavy duty on arrival to protect exposures as
Chief 12 transmitted the second alarm. Crews worked for hours to control the blaze and mop up hot spots.

Out Building Goes To Second Alarm, Lancaster County, PA 08.23.2009

REIGELSVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- On Sunday, August 23rd, at approx. 1 p.m., the Richlandtown Fire Co. #1 was
dispatched to assist sta. 42 on a working apartment fire with possible entrapment. Tanker 36 and Engine 36
responded. Upon arrival, Tanker 36 went into water supply shuttle operations. Engine 36, under the
command of Capt. Shaun McNally, went into service. Capt. 36 was assigned to side B command. Engine 36's
crew went into service with a 3" blitzfire attack and a 1 3/4" handline for fire suppression. Further into the
incident, it was determined all occupants of all the involved apartments were accounted for. The building
sustained a roof collapse and major fire, smoke, and water damage. Red Cross was notified to tend to
apartment occupants. Units were on scene for approx. 5 hours until cleared.

Have Fire? Will Travel... Engine Co. 36, Bucks County, PA 08.23.2009

HARRISON COUNTY, WV -- 8/23- At around 01:35 a passerby walked into Co. 1 (Anmoore VFD) and stated they
saw heavy smoke coming from a house on North Ash Street in Anmoore. With this, Engine 12 responded and
arrived on scene with a working fire on the outside rear of a 2-story dwelling and requested a box
assignment to be alerted. In the meantime, E12 stretched a 1 ¾” cross lay and began fire attack. This sent
Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), Engine 121 (Stonewood VFD), and Engine 21 (Bridgeport VFD) to the scene.
Engine 71 (w/5-AC Richards) hit the street seconds later and arrived on scene as 3rd due engine and were
ordered to set up the light tower to provide scene lighting and send their manpower inside to assist with
mop up with the fire being out. Command 1 then returned the responding BPVFD E22 and STVFD E122.
Engine 71’s crew checked for extension using the TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera), provided scene lighting,
and assisting Co. 1 packing up their equipment before returning by 02:10.
Then at 04:32, Company 1 (Anmoore VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), and Engine 21 (Bridgeport VFD) were
alerted for a Smoke Investigation on North Ash Street in Anmoore near the same location as the previous
fire. Engine 71 (w/5 AC Richards) hit the streets seconds later. Engine 12 once again responded and arrived
on scene and advised HC911 they were on location with a working house fire and stretched an 1 ¾” cross
lay, hit the plug, and began attempting to make entry into the home. E71 arrived on scene as 2nd due engine
and were advised to stretch a 1 ¾” cross lay to assist Co. 1 at the front door making entry while also being
ordered to set up the light tower to provide scene lighting and laid 250’ of 4” LDH, securing their own plug
on the corner. As crews were advancing their way into the structure, crews encountered heavy fire in the
living room and attic, while 71 stretched a 2nd 1 ¾” cross lay to make entry through the back door. Interior
crews made an aggressive attack on the fire knocking most of it down within 25 minutes. Extension was
found in the walls and cockloft and crews which were found using the TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera).
Firefighters then headed up to the roof to extinguish the remaining hot spots as crews inside began a
lengthy mop up. Crews went ready by 08:00.
8/24- At 02:58, Company 8 (Reynoldsville VFD), Engine 91 (Salem VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), Engine
131 (Summit Park VFD), and Engine 121 (Stonewood VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on Gladys Hollow
in Reynoldsville. Engine 71 (w/6-AC Richards) hit the street shortly after with Tanker 7 (w/2-FF/EMT Gross) not
far behind. RVFD E81 arrived on scene and advised HC911 of a 1 story wooden dwelling fully involved.
Command 8 then requested Engine 11 (Anmoore VFD), Tanker 3 (Lost Creek VFD), and Engine 112 (Spelter
VFD) to be added to the alarm. E71 arrived on scene as 2nd due engine, picked up 81’s 3” supply line for
water supply, set up the light tower for scene lighting, and assisted in fire attack. Crews extinguished the
bulk of the fire within 15 minutes and began mop up. A ProPak off of Tanker 7 was used to lay a foam blanket
to finish hitting hotspots. SVFD Engine 112 transferred to Co. 8 while all other responding units were
ordered to stage and eventually were returned. Crews assisted Co. 8 in packing up their equipment and

Three House Fires With-in 24 Hours, Harrison County, WV 08.23&24.2009

LEACOCK TOWNSHIP, PA -- On the afternoon of August 31st, Lancaster County Communications transmitted
BOX Alarm 44 to 90 South New Holland Road for the reported barn on fire. Moments after transmitting the
BOX, Chief 44 reported to fire radio of a thermal column one mile out and requested the second alarm
assignment be struck. Crews from the first and second alarm went to work on the large barn which was fully
involved with many exposures. Tanker Companies shuttled water as crews battled the blaze. Companies
