PARKSIDE, PA -- At 08:15hrs the box alarm assignment was struck for the
200 block of E. Avon rd for a house fire reported to be a bedroom. Chief J.
Iacono (45-9) arrived on the scene to find a two story single with smoke
showing from the C/D corner of Division 1. Tac 45 under the command of
A/C P. Curry (45-9b) arrived with a crew of 5 & dropped approximately 800
feet of supply line. Tac 45's crew led off with a 1 3/4" handline through the
front door to a rear bedroom wear they encountered heavy fire. Crews put
a quick knock on the fire & started overhaul. Engine 45 arrived shortly after
Tac 45 and secured the water supply. Ladder 65 was next in and started
venting & ladder the building. Thanks to all of the Companies for assisting
with getting Tac 45 back in-service. 45-9 scaled the assignment back to
Companies 45 & 65. Companies were on scene for about 45min. Units
assisting Parkside on scene was Rescue Co. 43 ( RIT , Engine Co. 57, Truck
and Rescue Co. 63, Truck and Engine Co. 65, Parkside Police, Parkside Fire

Working Bedroom Fire, Delaware County, PA 05.03.2009

LANCASTER, PA -- On Sunday May 11th, The annual mothers day Make-A-Wish truck convoy kicked off in
Lancaster County, Pa around 0830Hrs. with the truck convoy starting at 1330Hrs. This years convoy was a
huge success with over 400 tractor trailers along with Emergency vehicles from all over the area making the
mid county trip from Lancaster to Ephrata. The Make-A-Wish foundation helps make dreams come true for
children with life-threatening medical conditions. Almost every truck in the convoy had a Make-A-Wish child
aboard and they were making lots of noise. This event is held every year in Lancaster County, PA and is one
of Make-A-Wishes biggest fund raisers.

Fatal House Fire, Chester County, PA 05.03.2009

WEST EARL TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Thursday May 14th, Lancaster County Wide Communications transmitted the
313 street assignment to the area of Route 772 and Route 222 South for the reported PIC with an overturned
tractor trailer. Companies 313, 24 along with EMS from 210 and Ephrata Hospital's Medic 3 were advised of a
tractor trailer that had over turned on Route 772 under the Route 222 South overpass. Chief 313 arrived
moments later confirming the report with the driver of the truck self extricated and walking around.
Command 313 placed Ladder 24 in service as Engine Company 313 controlled the hazards from the incident.
Command later request Hazmat 29 to the scene for the diesel fuel leak. The trailer was loaded with bananas
and the driver was transported to Ephrata Hospital with minor injuries.

EPHRATA BOROUGH, PA -- On Friday May 15th, The Rescue local was transmitted to the area of North State
Street at Chestnut Street for the reported PIC w/people trapped. Units from Engine Company 15, Rescue
Squad 115 along with EMS units from 112 and Ephrata Hospital's Medic 4 were advised by communications of
a vehicle overturned at the intersection with one vehicle fleeing the scene. Units arrived moments later
confirming one vehicle overturned with one priority three patient that was self extricated. Command 15
quickly recalled Rescue Squad 115 as Engine 15-2 arrived to control hazards. Police Department found the
other vehicle up the road after it fled the scene. Crews went ready in about 30 minute with EMS getting a
refusal on transport and treatment release signed by the patient.

STRASBURG TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Wednesday May 20th, The rescue local was transmitted to the area of 1586
Beaver Valley Pike for the reported PIC with people trapped. Crews arrived on scene moments later to find
one vehicle overturned in a cow pasture with people trapped. Crews worked quickly to free the driver and
transported them by ground to the local trauma center.

Rollover w/People Trapped, Lancaster County, PA 05.20.2009

BELLEVUE, PA -- At 2:00 a.m. tones dropped for Station 108, 250 Engine, and 109 RIT, for a commercial
structure fire with multiple entrapment and people hanging out of windows on Jefferson Ave in Bellevue.
108 Engine was en route to the location with an update. PD on scene confirming working fire, heavy smoke
showing and a lot of people hanging out of windows. County also advised that callers were calling in saying
they were trapped in various rooms. 103 Engine and 249 Truck were immediately added to the assignment.
108 Engine arrived on scene with one crew throwing ladders to trapped people and other crews beginning
fire attack and a primary search. 251 Engine, 246 Engine, 148 Engine, 297 Truck, and 275-276 RIT were also
added to the assignment. Crews worked vigorously to pull out 23 victims and one individual who was
pronounced at the hospital. Heavy extension check, and overhaul were completed to ensure that the fire
running the walls and ceilings were out and that there were no hot spots. Firefighters worked until 8 a.m.

WESTERNPORT, MD -- On 5/28/2009 just after midnight, Allehgany County dispatched a vehicle accident on
Route 36 between Westernport and Barton. Early reports advised a single vehicle accident where a vehicle
struck a large rock. The caller was not familiar with the location of the accident. The accident scene ended
up being on Westernport Road at the Moran Farm just inside Garrett County. Initial dispatch was Squad 22,
Engine Rescue 19, and EMS 50 for the first location. With the change in the location, the scene was in Station
36's 1st Due. Dispatch alerted Engine Co. 36 to respond to the scene. Engine Rescue 19 and Chief 19
cancelled on the call. Squad 22 responded with 5 volunteers along with Chief 22 (Dayton). Minipumper 36
and two ambulances from EMS 50 also responded to the scene. Squad 22 responded with 5 volunteers along

22 and Chief 22 arrived on the scene and had one subject still inside the vehicle. The driver was already out
of the vehicle and being treated by the ambulance crew. The squad crew stabilized the vehicle with step
blocks and then started working on the passenger side door. The crew used the transformers to pop the
door open and then spread the hinges to remove the door completely. Extrication was complete within 11
minutes from the Squad's arrival on the scene. The ambulance crew was then able to access the patient.
Both subjects were transported by ambulance to the area trauma center. Squad 22 cleared the scene and
returned to service within 1 hour.
