BROTHERS INJURED DURING FIREHOUSE ACCIDENT, PHILADELPHIA, PA 01.06.2007
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The firemen stationed at their firehouse, Engine 73, located at 7515 Ogontz Avenue,
were testing a reserve fire truck, and while running at high idle in neutral, the apparatus all of a sudden
jumped gear and hit one of firemen and drove the firemen and fire truck deep into the wall. The firemen
was trapped in the wall and debris and pinned by fire truck for some time. The other firemen in the
firehouse could not shut down the fire truck’s engine, most likely due to the cab part of the truck was under
a large amount of debris. The firemen were finally were able to rescue their brother from the debris and the
truck. A fire then ensued, heavily damaging the engine bay of the firehouse, but was quickly extinguished.
The two firemen were transported to the hospital. They are reported serious, but stable condition. There
was a report that a third firemen was transported with minor injures.

Working House Fire, Prince Georges County, MD 01.07.2007
PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY, MD -- BOX 20 was transmitted to 5905 Old Crain Highway for the reported house
on fire. Units arrived with heavy fire on the 2nd Division. Numerous lines were placed in service as the roof
started to collapse on the Charlie Side of the house. Interior crews were pulled from the house and crews
went heavy duty to knock down the bulk of the remaining fire.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA -- At 1415 hours the Newtown Square Fire Company (Co.41) and Medic 104B  were
dispatched to Malin Road & Mansion Road for an MVC involving an overturned vehicle.  Deputy Chief Doug
Simpson arrived to find a passenger car on it's roof with two seriously injured occupants still in the car.  
Rescue 41 (under the command of Chief Doug Everlof) arrived and quickly went to work to stabilize the
vehicle. Both patients were extricated in under 10 minutes and transported to the near by LZ.  Radnor
Engine 15-2 (under the command of Asst. Chief Jiminez) handled the LZ at the Christian School located just
500 feet south of the accident scene. Pennstar 1 & 2 transported the patients to HUP. Also assisting at the
scene was Medic 53 and the Radnor Police Department.

LITTLETON, CO -- At 11:34 hours Littleton Fire Communications alerted units in the 1st Battalion to reports of
a motor home fire threatening a residence.  First arriving Ladder 16 found flames and smoke showing from
the engine & driver area of a medium size motor home less than a foot from a wood frame structure.  The
crews from Ladder 16 & Medic 13 advanced a 2 1/2 inch line to protect the exposure and make an attack.  
The second & third due engines were held for a short time for overhaul and to stand by with a supply; the
fire was held to the vehicle and no injuries occured.  The fire remains under investigation.

Triple Fatal House Fire, New Castle County, DE 01.17.2007
MINQUAS, DE -- Shortly after 2300hrs, the dwelling
assignment was struck for #28 Prosperity Rd. for the
reported building fire. Neighbors discovered smoke
showing from the home, called 911 and were able to
remove a family member from the home. Cmd 23-5 arrived
to report heavy smoke showing from the single story
home, with reports of additional subjects trapped. Water
lines were started as the 1st due engine crew were able to
remove a second victim, both were rushed to Christianna
Hospital. Due to building condition and extent of fire, a
defensive attack was ordered. A 3rd victim was found later
during overhaul. County and State Police are investigating.

BELTSVILLE, MD -- At 2059 hours, Rescue Squad 14 was dispatched to the 3600 block of Powder Mill Road in
front of High Point High School for the personal injury accident with one trapped.  Rescue Squad 14 with 6
volunteers arrived on scene and found a two car accident with one trapped in a vehicle with heavy front
end damage.  The squad crew went to work by stabilizing the car, removing the glass, cutting off the
driver's door, and removing the roof.  The patient was extricated quickly and transported to a local trauma
center.  Rescue Squad 14 was ready for service at 2117 hours.

House Well Off On Arrival, Prince Geroges County, MD 01.19.2007
BOWIE, MD -- BOX 43 was transmitted to across from 3510 Church Road for the reported house on fire.
Companies arrived with a 2 story Single Family Dwelling well off, All units went heavy duty on arrival.
Command requested the Tanker Task Force as the area had no hydrants. One firefighter was injured and
transported with an ankle injury. Companies had the fire K/D in about 40 mins.

VERONA BOROUGH, PA -- Around 4:30pm on January 19th, 2007, firefighters from Verona, Oakmont and Penn
Hills were dispatched for a residential structure fire with possible entrapment located at the corner of East
Railroad Street and Grant Avenue in Verona Borough. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from
the front of the structure. Firefighters soon learned that all residents had made it out of the home thanks to
a unknown good Samaritan who had ran into the burning home and carried a man out to safety. The rescued
man was then rushed to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh with burns to the face and head and an ankle
injury. Firefighters battled the blaze for almost 2 hours before they could control the stubborn blaze which
consumed everything in the home. Several additional fire companies from Penn Hills were also called in to
the scene for assistance. One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital
and was later released. Fire officials believe the blaze may be accidentally caused by a lit candle on the first
floor, but the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.

CITY OF PITTSBURGH, PA -- Shortly before 5am, City of Pittsburgh firefighters were dispatched to Zone 3-17
for a structure fire near the intersection of Larimer Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find
a 3 story brick structure with heavy fire in the basement and first floors. A second alarm was quickly called
as firefighters began an interior attack and a truck crew vented the roof. About 30 minutes into the incident
a 3rd alarm was requested because the fire had now reached all floors of the structure and because of the
frigid and icy weather. The fire was brought under control around 6:30pm as the 3rd alarm assignment was
released and the 1st and 2nd alarm assignments began clean up. There is no reports of injuries and the
cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Working House Fire, Allegheny County PA 01.19.2007
3 Alarm House Fire, Allegheny County, PA 01.20.2007
SUGAR HILL, NC -- The BOX was transmitted around 0230hrs. to Montford Cove Road for the reported house
on fire. Companies from Sugar Hill, Marion, Glenwood and Shingle Hollow (Rutherford County) responded
with first in reports of a 2 story wood frame house well off. First in units went heavy duty on arrival and had
a tanker fill site started as the area had no hydrants. The tanker fill site was over 2 miles away from the
scene, firefighters had the bulk of the fire K/D at around 0250Hrs. No injuries were reported and is currently
under investigation.
House "Well Off", McDowell County, NC 01.20.2007
SHALER TWP., PA -- around 2:30am, Shaler Township police discovered a vehicle on it’s roof with a sheared
off telephone pole and live wires down in the 1700 block of Mt. Royal Boulevard of Shaler Township.
Rescue crews from Elfinwild and Hampton fire departments were then dispatched to the scene. Elfinwild’s
fire chief arrived on-scene and confirmed one person trapped in the vehicle. Rescue crews spent about 25
minutes extricating the patient who was transported by Shaler EMS to Allegheny General Hospital’s trauma
unit. There is no word on the patients condition. Over 100 Shaler Township residents were left without
power for hours while crews repaired the power lines. There is no word on what caused the accident.

POTTSTOWN, PA -- Just before 8:00 am with snowy and icey roads the Pottstown Fire Dept. was dispatched
to a Vehicle Rescue, reported car into pole with entrapment, wires down on the roof and the car on fire at
Armand Hammer Blvd. and Queen St. Upon arrival of units firefighters extinquished the car and found that
the driver and children managed to get out of the vehicle while the car was on fire and wires were laying on
the roof just inches from them. Miracuolusly no one was seriously injured. R69, E69-6, and Fire police
remained on location for approximatley an hour and a half until the power company could reroute power
and secure the line.

Vehicle Vs. Pole Involving Fire, Montgomery County, PA 01.22.2007
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD -- BOX 05-02 was Transmitted to 106 Quire Avenue for the reported house on fire.
Engine 384 arrived with heavy smoke showing from the basement of a 1.5 story wood frame house.
Companies entered the house and found heavy fire coming from the basement. Interior operations
reported an gas fed basement fire and evacuated the house as units started to go defensive. Interior then
requested the RIC team be deployed for a missing fire fighter then the Evacuation tone was sounded then
command ordered a Mayday to be transmitted for missing / unaccounted fire fighters. After a head count all
fire fighters were found / accounted for and the mayday was cleared. Units continued to operated heavy
duty till the gas company arrived and shut down the gas.

MONROEVILLE, PA -- Around 1:30pm on January 22nd, Monroeville firefighters were alerted to a residential
structure fire located on McKenzie Drive, near the intersection with Center Road. The fire quickly grew to 3
alarms bringing in several Monroeville fire companies to the scene. Firefighters battled the blaze for
almost 2 hours before brining the fire under control. The home was a total loss. No one was hurt in the
blaze and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal is now investigating the cause of the fire.

PENNSAUKEN, NJ -- The first call of 2007 for the Pennsauken Fire Department could have turned out worse
that it was. Engine 11-6 was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire to the rear of Forman Mills on Rt. 130.
While en route the police began receiving reports that it was actually a MVC with a car under a tractor
trailer, with the driver of the vehicle entrapped and vehicle on fire. A full rescue box was dispatched.
Battalion Chief Sheppard arrived on location with BLS 1178 to find a vehicle with the engine compartment
well involved in fire. It was confirmed the three passengers were out of the vehicle. The crew from Engine
1161 arrived on location and went in operation with 1 - 1-3/4 hand line. The initial attack knocked the fire
down and the rescue assignment was recalled. Engine 1131's assisted Engine 1161's crew suppression. The
cause of the MVC and fire remain under investigation.

Working Vehicle Fire, Camden County, NJ 01.2007
CITY OF PITTSBURGH, PA -- Shortly after 2am on January 23rd, City of Pittsburgh fire dispatch alerted city
firefighters of a possible structure fire located at the intersection of Woods Run Avenue and Dyer Way and
reported they were receiving multiple calls on the fire. The first arriving units found a 2 ½ story wood frame
home well involved and began setting up a defensive attack. Less than 15 minutes into the incident,
command reported collapse on side D of the structure and requested a 2nd alarm. Firefighters battled the
smoky blaze for almost 2 hours. There is no word on what caused the fire and city fire investigators are now
beginning to search for a cause of the early morning blaze.

MARLBORO, MD -- BOX 20-09 was transmitted to the Prince Georges County Court House for the reported
building on fire. Moments later Chief 20 was in the area reporting heavy smoke coming from the roof, later
Chief 20A reported heavy fire showing. Command transmitted the Working Fire Dispatch & The Working Fire
Task Force as crews went to work on the roof of the old court house. As Crews worked on the roof,
Command transmitted the full 2nd Alarm to the scene. Division 3 (Chief 33A) reported piles of roofing
materials on the roof well off, Ladder pipes were set-up but not used. Crews had the fire U/C in about 1
Hour.

2 Alarm Fire Brings Down An Amish Wood Shop, Lancaster County, PA 01.26.2007
PARADISE TOWNSHIP, PA -- BOX  47 was transmitted to 113 Blackhorse Road for the reported Building on
fire. Chief 47-3 arrived with a working wood shop fire and transmitted the 2nd alarm on arrival. Command
reported a 30 x 60, 2 story wood shop well off and pulled the first in engine company out of the building as
the fire took over the building. Command transmitted the EVAC tones for all crew member to get out of the
building, All crews then went heavy duty. Engine 51-1 laid in from the road via the field, Crews pulled the
Blitz fire and multiple hand lines to stop the spread of fire to the exposure buildings. Crews had the bulk of
the fire knocked in about 1 1/2 Hours, Multiple crews stayed and mopped up for about another 2 hours.

STEELTON, PA -- Dauphin Box 501 was transmitted for a structure fire at 156 Conestoga Street. The first
alarm assignment brought Company 50 (Steelton), Engines 41 (Bressler), 49 (Swatara Twp), and Rescue 40
(Paxtang). Chief 50 (Vance) arrived on location reporting a fully involved, 2.5 story, dwelling and requested
Tower 1 (Harrisburg City) for work and Truck 32 (Progress) for RIT. Engine 50 arrived and secured its own
water supply while crews stretched 2 attack lines. The fire was extending rapidly, driven by wind gusts,
throughout the wood frame dwelling and threatening the 2 exposure buildings. Tower 1 arrived setting up
on side 1 and went to the roof to open up. Engine 41 arrived grabbing a hydrant on Lincoln Street and along
with Rescue 40 assisted interior crews who were making good progress on the first floor. The fire was now
extending via the cockloft to the other exposure buildings. With multiple hand lines working the interior
firefighters were able to knock the bulk of the fire down after it broke through the roof. Engine 2-13, Air 13
(West Shore), and Squad 30 (Penbrook) all were called to the scene. Earlier in the morning a dump truck
brought down a major electrical line that services the borough on N. Front Street, leaving many parts of
Steelton without power. The fire began when an occupant of the home was heating cooking oil before the
outage, did not turn off the stove when the outage occured, and when power was restored the cooking oil
caught fire quickly spreading . 4 adults and 5 children were left homeless.

Rowhome Well Off On Arrival, Dauphin County, PA 01.26.2007
CAMDEN CITY NJ -- Firefighters from Camden City Fire Department was alerted to 17 North 22nd Street this
morning at approx 0415HRs for a reported Dwelling Fire.  Battalion 2 arrived to find a 3 story row of 3
dwellings with heavy fire showing from the first floor and 2nd floor with reports of victims trapped within
the dwelling.  Companies went into operation with multiple handlines and crews performed primary
searches for the reported occupants.  It was reported that all occupants were all safely accounted for and a
total of 9 residents at this time are displaced.  Command placed all hands to work and shortly after
requested the 2nd Alarm transmitted due to the fire spread to both the bravo and delta exposures.  
Command used several portable stang guns and elevated master streams during the incident.  Command
reported possible collapse with the interior of the dwelling and requested the 3rd Alarm transmitted along
with the Emergency Evacuation.  Multiple mutual aid companies were requested into the scene to assist
with the fire.  The incident at its height reached a 4th Alarm, and due to the cold temperatures required
additional EMS units to standby both for the displaced residents and for the Firefighters safety as well.  The
fire was brought under control at approx 0535Hrs and Camden City FM office is investigating the cause of
the fire.  No firefighter injuries were reported at the scene, but several residents were taken to local area
hospitals for a variety of injuries from smoke inhalation to injuries from their attempt to exit the houses.

4 Alarm Row home Fire, Camden County, NJ 01.27.2007

PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, PA -- BOX 59 was transmitted @ 1521 Hrs. for the reported MVC on Beaver Valley
Pike (RT. 222) between Orchard Road & Walnut Road. Crews arrived upgrading the assignment, reporting
one trapped. Rescue Squad 512 was placed on the Entrapment box and assisted Company 59 O/S. One
person was killed, The vehicle reportedly rolled multiple times.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ --The morning of Jan 29th at approx 0230Hrs.Westmont Fire Company (Station 15-1
and BLS 15-57) were alerted to 88 Emerald Avenue for a reported dwelling fire.  Companies responded and
were advised by PD that there was fire showing and possibly spreading to the 2nd floor of the dwelling.  
First arriving crews reported heavy fire showing from a 3 story SFD.  Command had crews operate with 1 - 1
¾ handline to the interior of the dwelling and secure a water supply, while additional crews were ordered to
hook ceilings and walls.  While it had appeared that the bulk of the fire was knocked down, the fire had
already spread to the roof area of the dwelling.  All Hands were requested and Rescue 16-1 was dispatched
as the FAST Company.  Command had reported now they were having water problems and fire had broken
through the roof.  IC requested the 2nd alarm struck which brought Station 18-3, Engine 14-12, Mask
Services 1-1, and Squad 1-1 as an additional FAST company.  Camden Counties Canteen 1 and 2 along with
Cherry Hill Rehab 13-8 were requested for firefighter rehab.  The fire was placed under control at approx
0400Hrs.  No injuries were reported to any Firefighters or Civilians at the scene.   Pennsauken Engine was
special called to the scene to assist in a pumper relay to provide additional water.  Engine 4-51, Quint 9-1,
And Rescue 11-3 were called to cover Station 15-1.  The fire is under investigation by the Camden County
Fire Marshals Office along with the Haddon Twp. Fire Investigators.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ -- The BOX was transmitted to 221 White Horse Pike for the reported apartment
building on fire. Companies arrived with a 2 Story 50 x 75 O/M/D with heavy fire showing from the number 2
Division. One Police Officer and an civilian were taken to the hosptial with minor injuries.

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 3:42pm on January 29th, Scott Township firefighters were alerted to a structure
fire located at the King’s Grant condominium complex in the 1000 block of Chatham Park Drive. Firefighters
arrived to find a working fire in one of the apartments. The fire spread quickly and ended up running the
length of the common roof destroying the top floor and roof area of one section of the complex. At one
point, firefighters were forced to evacuate the building due to unsafe conditions. At that point firefighters
set up an aggressive aerial and ground defensive attack to attempt to contain the flames to the one section
of the complex. Firefighters were successful from stopping the quick moving flames from jumping to the
next section of the condominium complex but it appears the section involved in the fire is a total loss.
Despite the fast moving flames and temperatures in the low 20s, no one was injured in the massive blaze.
Several people were displaced by the fire and are being helped by the American Red Cross. Units from
Bower Hill, East Carnegie, Glendale, Carnegie, Bridgeville, Dormont, Kirwan Heights, Presto, Bethel Park,
Mt. Lebanon along with the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Port Authority and the Allegheny County Fire
Marshall responded to the blaze. There is no word yet on exactly what sparked the blaze, but damage
estimates could be as high as $2 million dollars.

Working Condominium Job, Allegheny County, PA 01.29.2007
CHESTER CITY, PA -- While city units were clearing another call in the city, Fireboard advised Chester-11 of
multiple calls for the 700 Blk of Mary street. Chester-11 arrived to report several vacant dwellings involved
and requested the 2nd alarm, bringing the Volunteers to the city. Several supply lines were set up and a
defensive operation was launched.

2 Alarm Row Home Fire, Delaware County, PA 01.29.07
LANCASTER TOWNSHIP, PA -- Around 1004 Harmony Station 23 and Harmony EMS Station 62 was dispatched
for a reported house fire on 157 Liberty Rd. Lancaster Twp.  Chief 23 and Harmony EMS units were first to
arrive and confirmed a working fire.  At that time Chief 23 requested mutual aid from Zelienople Station 22
and Portersville Station 24.  There was heavy fire venting from the attic.  Crews made entry to the 2nd story
and opened up a hole to the attic and began to knockdown the fire.  A partial roof collapse occured over 2
bedrooms no injuries occured. At that time more mutual aid was requested bringing tankers from Franklin
Twp, Beaver Co. and Perry Twp.  Crews remained on scene for about 3 hours after initial dispatch to
complete overhaul.  The house is believed to be repairable.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Companies were transmitted to 555 Shetland Drive for the reported condo
fire. Crews arrived with heavy fire showing from the number 2 Division of a 3 story condo building. As fire
started to go through the roof, command transmitted the 2nd Alarm. All units went heavy duty and had the
fire under control in about 2 hours.
