2 Alarm Building Fire, Delaware County, PA 01.24.2008

UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, PA-- Just after Midnight, The Township Assignment was struck to the
Conchester @ Hubcap Jacks for the Automatic Fire Alarm. As Tower 61 hit the street, communications
advised of numerous calls being received with heavy smoke & fire showing. Engine 40-1 hit the street soon
after the report, with a staffing of 5. The assignment was then upgraded adding the FAST Team from
Parkside, 40-7, and Medic 100C. Tower 61, Engine 401, Rescue 40, and Engine 55 arrived and started to go in
service. Upper Chichester 9(S.Montello) arrived and established the 322 Command. 55 Chief(C.D Small) took
the operations division, while Deputies 39(D.A. Durbano) & 40(R. Fuller Jr) took the rear division. Numerous
crews were inside trying to stop the quickly spreading fire. The fire started to make its way through the roof
area, so Command struck the 2nd alarm. On the second alarm were: Rescue 39(Linwood), Rescue 72(Aston
Beechwood), Truck 69(Lima), Ladder 48(Tinicum Twp), Ladder 68(MHTFD), and Engine 47(Chester Township).
Company 45 was placed in service, along with the township companies so they were replaced by RIT
63(Green Ridge) & NCC RIT 13(Claymont). The RIT teams were set up on both sides of the structure.
Numerous master streams were put in service by Truck 69(Lima), Ladder 68(MHTFD), and Tower 61(Reliance).
Due to the lack of water supply several additional engines were called to assist with a water shuttle bringing
Engine 59(Concordville), Engine 66(Bethel), and Engine 63(Green Ridge). Numerous other agencies were
called for their assistance including: Upper Chi Highway Department, PENNDOT, and PECO. Operating units
were in service for about 6 hours before bringing the fire under control. Special thanks to all the fire police
who assisted throughout the entire scene. Thank you also to Bridgeport(Logan Township, NJ), Squrt
43(Holmes), Ladder 36(Montgomery County), Squrt 43(New Castle County), Engine 41(Newtown Square) for
providing coverage to Upper Chichester during the incident.

CITY OF CHESTER, PA -- At 14:55 hrs Eng. & Truck Co. 82 (6 F/F's & 1 Capt.), Eng. Co. 83 3F/F's & 1 Capt), Medic
83, & Chester 11 (Batt Chief) were dispatched to 327 East 12th Street for the building fire. Chester-17 (Asst.
Fire Marshal) went on location with a two story twin with heavy fire showing 1st floor side 1. 82-1 dropped a
5" supply line and went in service with a 1 3/4 hose-line. Truck Co. 82 searched and ventilated the fire
building while 83-1 opened and searched the exposure. Companies remained in service for approximately

CITY OF CHESTER, PA -- After Lunch Company 82, Medic 100-7 and Chester 11 were dispatched to Route 291
and Upland Road for the reported PIC. Chester 11 (T. Cappasso) arrived first on scene and found a 1 car
crash with no entrapment. Chester 11 held 821 and the medics for refusals. 821 assisted the PD with traffic
and controlling the hazards. Crews waited on scene for CWA to remove the damaged hydrant from the street.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA -- Around 15:30 Sunday afternoon, Delaware County Station 53 was dispatched to 313
South Parkway Blvd, C Building for the building fire, Chief 53-9B arrived on the scene reporting smoke
showing from the 3rd floor, Crews accessed the building and made a quick knock on the fire, crews
remained on scene for about 1 hour and provided ventilation and overhaul. This fire is currently under

BROOMALL, PA -- Around 1915 hours on Saturday evening Delaware County Station 52(brookhaven) Was
alerted to the 4500 Block of Chandler Drive for the Building fire, Chief 52-9B arrived on scene with fire
thought the roof. Crews made a quick knock of the fire, Crews remained on scene for about 2 hours.

WEST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA -- At around 23:00 LCWC dispatched the 1st alarm assignment on Highland
Drive in West Hempfield Township, Lancaster County for a dwelling fire. 2nd call in reported fire showing,
and a resident still inside the structure. Engine 7-6-2 arrived on scene with fire showing on the 2nd division,
sides A-B and dropping the line. Engine 671 arrived and took the second hydrant. Rescue 84-1 arrived and
provided RIT operations at the A-D corner of the dwelling. The primary search was completed and proved

WEST BERLIN, NJ -- On January 28th around 0500 hours, Task Force 22 was dispatched for a structure fire on
the four- hundred block of Oak Lane in Berlin Township. 2201 arrived on location and reported a single
family dwelling with heavy fire throughout. Crews initiated an aggressive exterior attack and the fire was
placed under control within an hour. Mutual Aid Companies from Voorhees, Berlin Borough, Winslow and
Waterford Township were also on location assisting station 22. No injuries were reported and the fire is

WRIGHTSVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- Just before 08:00 hours, freezing rain hit the York/Lancaster area leaving
dozens of accidents. During the rainfall, 41 took in six of these incidents, 3 of them in the first due. The day
started off at 07:48 with an accident with entrapment on Route 462 near Macks Ice Cream. Rescues 1, 2 and
the Command responded in one minute with a crew of 9. Chief 21 arrived on the scene confirming double
entrapment. Engine 21 (Hallam) began cribbing and extrication. Rescue 2 arrived and removed two drivers
doors from each vehicle. Personnel assisted in patient care and removal.

CITY OF CHESTER, PA -- At 15:20 hrs the companies were dispatched to 328 Rose Street for a building fire
with entrapment. Chester-11 arrived on location to find a three story twin with fire showing 2nd floor side 2,
negative entrapment. 82-1 dropped a 5" supply line and lead off with an 13/4 hand-line. The fire was placed
under control by the first twenty minute mark and crews remained on location for approximately an hour and
a half for extensive overhaul. One occupant was transported to CCMC for smoke inhalation and burns.

CITY OF CAMDEN, NJ -- On January 15, 2008, a box was transmitted at 321 Cooper Street for a reported
building fire. Companies arrived and found a 3 story, ordinary constructed building with smoke showing.
Companies stretched several 1 ¾” hand lines to find fire conditions in the attic. The all hands was sounded
bringing in an additional engine and battalion. Companies had smoke in the attached exposure cocklofts as
well. The fire was contained to this area and knocked down. A special call was made to Gloucester City for an
additional Ladder Company. The building is owned by Rutgers University and is used for offices. No injuries

CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, PA -- On January 19,2008 Philadelphia companies were notified of a structure fire to
the rear of the Cardinals house on the Church property at 53rd and Overbrook. Companies arrived to find a 2
story garage structure fully involved. Additional units were special called to the scene. Companies stretched
several hand lines as well as placed a Ladder Pipe in service. Companies knocked the fire down without any
extension to a near by structure. No injuries were reported on the fire ground.

Working Garage Fire, Philadelphia County, PA 01.21.2008

MUDDY CREEK TOWNSHIP, PA -- At approximately 06:29 Harmony Station 23 and Harmony EMS Station 62 was
dispatched to a personal injury collision with injuries on Interstate 79 at the 93 mile marker northbound,
Lancaster Township. Chief 23 was first to arrive and notified Butler County Communications that the
accident was actually in Muddy Creek Township and requested Portersville Station 24 and Portersville EMS
Station 64 to be alerted. Chief 23 then updated incoming EMS and rescue crews that he had an overturned
SUV with one patient entrapped and another patient ejected. Rescue 23 arrived behind EMS crews and was
ordered to begin stabilization and to start extrication. The ejected occupant was DOA and was pronounced
by EMS crews. A roof flap was performed in order to extricate the driver. Rescue crews stabilized the
vehicle and extricated the patient in 9 minutes, once the patient was extricated he was placed into the back
of the medic unit and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries.

CITY OF CHERRY HILL, NJ -- On January 26, 2008 a Merchantville Fire Officer notified communications of a
dwelling on fire at 605 Franklin Ave in Cherry Hill . The box was dispatched as reports of possible people
trapped. ALS and BLS were added to the box. Cherry Hill Companies arrived and reported a 1 story single
family dwelling with heavy fire showing from division A. The all hands was sounded on arrival. Companies
went in operation with a hand line as the dwelling was opened up. BLS tended to one pt. who suffered
smoke inhalation while exiting the dwelling. Searches were negative. The fire was placed under control

PENNSAUKEN, NJ -- On January 30, 2008 shortly after midnight a dwelling box was transmitted at 1677
Tinsman Ave. Chief 11-4 arrived and reported a 2 story dwelling with heavy fire division C and heavy smoke
throughout. The all hands was sounded on arrival. Crews went into operation with a 1 3/4” hand line to knock
the fire down in the rear. Ladder Companies went to the roof to ventilate as crews checked for extension. 2
homeowners were transported with smoke inhalation. The 2nd alarm was struck for additional man power to
the scene. The fire was placed under control with no firefighter injuries reported on the fire ground.

CITY OF CAMDEN, NJ -- On January 30, 2008 a box was transmitted for an apartment fire at 8th and Ferry.
Engine 10, Engine 8, Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched. Rescue 1 arrived and
reported a 2 story brick apartment building with medium smoke showing. Engine 10 arrived and led off with
a 1 ¾” hand line to find heavy fire conditions in a rear room in the apartment. Ladder 2 went to the roof to
ventilate as Rescue 1 performed searches. The fire was held to the one apartment. No injuries were

HADDON HEIGHTS, NJ -- At 11:30 A.M on January 31, 2008 a dwelling fire was dispatched in Haddon Heights at
802 Station Ave. Command 210, reported a 2 ½ story multi family dwelling with smoke showing from the
chimney. Crews arrived and reported a fire condition in the basement and chimney area. Additional crews
were sent to check for extension in the walls on each floor. The 2nd Alarm was sounded which brought
additional manpower to the scene. The fire was placed under control with no injuries reported.

CITY OF CAMDEN, NJ -- On January 31, 2008 a dwelling assignment was dispatched in Camden City at 2nd and
Erie Streets shortly after 11:30 p.m. Engines 6,1 Ladders 1,3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched on
the box. Camden County Communications reported a dwelling on fire. Battalion 2 responding from East
Camden reported a glow in the sky and struck the All Hands adding an additional engine and Battalion 1.
Engine 6 arrived on location and reported heavy fire conditions in several vacant dwellings. Battalion 2
arrived and confirmed heavy fire 2nd floor and through the roof. Companies set up for defensive operations
due to fire conditions in the dwellings. The fire spread and consumed the entire 2nd floors and roofs of all 3
dwellings. Companies placed several 2 ½” hand lines in operation as well as Ladder 1’s master stream from
the bucket. The fire was placed under control around the 1 hour mark. No injuries were reported on the fire

LIVONIA, NY -- A 45 year-old Canadice woman was killed in a head-on accident on Route 15A in the town of
Livonia (Hemlock Fire District) on Thursday, January 31. The collision occurred just north of Stone Hill Road
about 4:15 p.m. . Hemlock and Livonia fire departments responded to the scene, along with EMS and ALS
units from Livonia, Lima, Livingston County, Honeoye Falls-Mendon and Mercy Flight Central. The Lima F.D.
was requested for fire police to close the road during the incident. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools
to extricate the drivers of both vehicles from the wreckage. The woman, who was the sole occupant of her
vehicle, was transported by Livonia EMS to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where she was
pronounced dead. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were also taken to Strong for treatment.
The New York State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office were also on scene, and continue to

TABERNACLE TOWNSHIP, NJ -- TF43 (Medford Farms Fire Company and Tabernacle Rescue Squad) were
dispatched to the area of 271 Medford Lakes Road, Tabernacle, Burlington County for an MVA with an
unknown extent of injuries at 9:23 am. A passing firefighter (Wylupek) upgraded the assignment to a rescue
adding Medic 33. Chief 4300 (Welling) arrived 2 minutes after dispatch to find a single vehicle MVA vs. a pole
with one female pinned, pole split and wires down. 4300 placed a helicopter on standby then requested the
fly following an initial patient assessment. The patient's lower extremities were pinned by the dashboard
area and the movement of the A post. Command was transferred to 4301 (Vena) and 4300 led the rescue
group. Rescue 4399 (Getz) arrived and went in service removing both the driver and passenger doors, roof
and passenger seat. A modified dash lift was conducted across the car from the passenger side using a long
ram and steel plates to disperse the load on the dash. Quint 4314 (Krause) and Mini Pumper 4317 (Yetter)
provided suppression support. Following the 32 minute extrication BLS 1781 transported the patient with the
flight medics to the landing zone which was handled by Medford E2511 at Shawnee High School.
