PALMYRA BOROUGH, PA -- Box 01-02 was transmitted for a structure fire in the 100 block of E. Front St. in the
borough around 1030 hours. Units responding had a heavy thermal column visible from several miles away.
C-1 (Dugan) arrived to find a 2 1/2 story balloon frame single family residence with heavy fire involvement
and extension to the side D exposure; a 2 1/2 story balloon frame duplex. PD reports civilians escaping via
porch roof over ladder upon their arrival. W-1 laid a 5" supply and made an initial hit with the Stang while
large lines were stretched. T-1 took side A and prepared to go in service. A quick walk around showed that
the original fire building was fully involved on all divisions while a rapid interior inspection of the D
exposure encountered heavy fire conditions on division 2 with some fire beginning to extend to the interior
of division 1. It was at this point that the hydrant supplying W-1 was found to be providing insufficient
pressure while the residential electrical service detached from exposure D in spectacular fashion and
landed across T-1 rendering it OOS. E 1-1 arrived to support the hydrant while T-5 was able to set up on side
D of the D exposure and make access to the roof.  Additional supply lines were laid by E 1-1 and E 48.
Defensive operations were initiated on the original fire building while multiple 1 3/4" lines were advanced
into the D1 and D2 exposures.  Rapid progress was made as the lines were advanced with multiple
companies performing OV and roof ventilation.  The main areas of fire involvement in all structures were
rapidly knocked down with extensive overhaul taking place in exposure D.  Several collapses rendered the
original fire building unstable so heavy equipment was called in for demolition while Attack 3 was utilized to
apply foam to the debris pile. Fortunately, all occupants were able to escape prior to fire department arrival.
The original fire building was a complete loss while exposure D1 suffered heavy fire damage to divisions 2
and 3 with minor fire and overhaul damage to division 1.  Exposure D2 suffered heavy fire damage to
division 3 with minimal smoke and water damage elsewhere.  One firefighter was transported to the ER for
heat exhaustion.  A big thanks to the numerous mutual aid companies on scene and on transfer
assignments.
