RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, MI -- On Friday 6/5/09 around 1600hrs, Richland Twp. FD was dispatched for a reported
PI Accident in the 5600blk of N. Sprinkle Rd. As R/E351 responded w/2, County Dispatch reported that they
were receiving calls that there was entrapment. Due to the location of the accident, 391(Asst. Chief)
requested mutual aid from Comstock North FD. R/E922 arrived to find one vehicle in the middle of the road
and another vehicle about 100yards down the road. Richland and Comstock firefighters went to work to
freeing the critically injured person from the vehicle by taking the roof off. Firefighters also had to find a
amputated limb from the pt. Pt. was extricated within minutes and transported by PrideCare ambulance P1 to
the local trauma center. CFD units cleared while RFD units remained onscene to assist police with the

QUARRYVILLE BOROUGH, PA -- This weekend the 89th annual Lancaster County Fireman's Convention was
held in the Borough of Quarryvile with over 120 units. Events kicked off Friday with an award and memorial
presention for deceased members of the LCFA. They were honored along with awards for crews in the
County going beyond the call of duty. On Saturday, Bright and Shiny units from all over the Lancaster County
area and beyond paraded around Quarryville for over 1 hour.

PARKSBURG, PA -- On June 7th, The Rescue Local was transmitted to the area of Route 30 West at Compass
Road for the reported PIC with people ejected. Crews from the first alarm rescue assignment arrived
reporting a multiple vehicle crash with multiple priority one patients. Shortly after the first units arrived,
command requested Skycare one fly-direct for one female priority one patient that was ejected from her
vehicle. EMS crews treated multiple patients as fire crews controlled hazards from the vehicles. Skycare
landed directly on route 30 as Ambulance 29-1 awaited their arrival for the patient. One patient was flown as
other were transported by ground to area trauma centers. Crews remained on the scene for about 30

4 Alarmer w/Multiple Rescues, Lancaster County, PA 06.07.2009

HELLAM TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 01:54, on June 10th, 2009, York County Rescue Company 41 (Wrightsville) along
with units from 21 (Hellam) were dispatched to Route 30 East bound in Hellam Township near Accomac Road
for a vehicle accident with injuries, class 1. Shortly after dispatch, the accident was upgraded to entrapment.
Rescues 41-1, and 41-2 responded in one minute with a crew of 10. Chief 21 (Dube) arrived on the scene to
find a 2-vehicle accident involving a single axle box truck vs. a car with both vehicles overturned. One
patient was ejected from the car and thrown approximately 50 feet. Crews from Wrightsville and Hellam
began patient care, and controlled hazards on both vehicles. The patient who was ejected was packaged and
transported to the hospital by Ambulance 89-1 (York Area United Fire & Rescue) with serious injuries. The
driver of the box truck was transported by Eastern York County Ambulance 41 with minor injuries. Units
cleared the scene in about 3 hours after both vehicles were removed.

Dual Roll Over PIC, York County, PA 06.10.2009

EAST VIEW, WV -- At 20:12 on Wednesday June 10, Company 1 (Anmoore VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD),
and Engine 121 (Stonewoof VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on Fowler Avenue Extension in East View.
Engine 73 (w/6-Capt. Rohrbough) and Squad 7 (w/4-AC Richards) hit the street seconds later. E73 and Sq7
were the first arriving units and advised HC911 of a 1-story dwelling with fire and heavy smoke showing.
E73's crew stretched an 1.75" cross lay through the front door to begin fire attack while Squad 7's crew hit
the plug and stretched 100' of 4" LDH off the the incoming AVFD Engine 12 and hooked in to 73. Upon making
entry, crews encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions in the kitchen, dining, and living room areas.
Firefighters also found a dog, cat, and several other small animals in the house but only 1 of which survived.
While interior crews were hard at work firefighters from 1 and 12 were setting up ground ladders and
beginning roof ventilation. The Boys from 7 made a fast knock on the fire knocking most of it down within 10
minutes. After an extensive overhaul and clean up Co. 7 units were back in service by 21:55.

Volunteers Tackle Second Job, Harrison County, WV 06.10.2009

EPHRATA BOROUGH, PA -- On Friday June 12th, The Street Assignment was transmitted to the area of the
1500 Block of West Main Street in Ephrata Borough for the reported PIC w/Serious Injuries. Engine Company
16 along with EMS from Ephrata Ambulance and Ephrata Hospital's Medic 4 were advised of a mini van that
rear ended a tow truck. Chief 16 arrived moments later confirming the reports and requested add'l EMS units
to the scene as EMS crews had multiple trauma patients. In total, 4 BLS units and 2 ALS units were on the
scene and transported to Lancaster General Hospital. Company 16 cleared the roadway and went ready in

WEST NANTMEAL TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 9:32PM, the TVFD was alerted for the reported odor of smoke in a
house, in the 200 block of Beam Road in West Nantmeal Township. Within two minutes, the assignment was
upgraded by the Chester County Fire Board due to the caller now reporting visible smoke in the basement.
On the box alarm upgrade, two engines from Station 48 (Glen Moore) and an ambulance from 33 (Honey
Brook, covering Elverson EMS) we added. Deputy 69A (T.McEwen) arrived and confirmed a smoke condition
in the basement. A working fire in the wall was discovered that extended well into the second story of the

Twin Valley Volunteers Goto Work, Chester County, PA 06.12.2009

SOUTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 11:48AM, the TVFD was alerted for Rescue Squad 69 as part of the
working fire dispatch, to assist Station 62 (Ridge) with a working house fire in the 1200 block of Ridge Road
in South Coventry Township. Rescue Squad 69 responded with five volunteers, soon followed by Engine
69-5 with a crew of four. Firefighters assisted with a secondary search for pets, overhaul operations, and
filled SCBA bottles off Rescue Squad 69's cascade system. TVFD cleared at 1:24PM.

Company Sixty Nine Goes Back To Work, Chester County, PA 06.13.2009

CAERNARVON TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 10:39AM Rescue Squad 69 along with two ambulances from 89(Elverson)
and one Ambulance from 33(Honey Brook) were dispatched to assist Station 34(Churchtown) for an auto
accident with entrapment at the intersections of Route 23 and Maxwell Hill Rd in Caernarvon Township
Lancaster County. Rescue 69 went enroute with 5 volunteers and arrived within minutes to find a vehicle on
its roof with two heavily entrapped. Volunteers from Engine 34-1 and Squad 34 were performing stabilization
on the vechicle as the rescue's crew was setting up for a full extracation. Unfortunately after EMS arrived
and evaluated the patients, it was determined that they had surccomed to their injuries prior to emergency
personell arriving on scene. Extrication was complete at 12:16pm after the state police and coroner's office
did their investigation. Rescue 69 went available 12:27PM.

Dual Fatal PIC w/Entrapment, Lancaster County, PA 06.15.2009

REYNOLDSVILLE, WV -- The hope for a long day and night of rest for
Co. 7 was interrupted at 21:07 when Company 8 (Reynoldsville VFD),
Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), Engine 131 (Summit Park VFD), and
Engine 121 (Stonewood VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on
Gladys Hollow in Reynoldsville. Engine 73 (w/5-AC Richards) and
Tanker 7 (w/2-FF Gross) hit the street seconds later. RVFD E81 arrived
on scene and advised HC911 of a working garage fire near a trailer.
Upon E73’s arrival crews assisted in fire attack and the Tanker
supplied 1 load of water. An aggressive first attack by Co. 8 stopped
the fire from spreading to the nearby trailer. Crews then put a foam
blanket on the fire using a ProPak off of E73. After finishing salvage
and overhaul crews returned in service at 22:15. Engine 121 was
requested to transfer to Co. 8 while enroute to the scene. While
crews were battling the blaze, the standby crew took in a Power line
Fire in Cedar Heights in Clarksburg but found nothing and returned in

LITTLE BRITAIN TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Thursday June 25th, BOX Alarm 513 was transmitted for the reported barn
on fire at 95 Kirks Mill Road in Little Britain Twp. Units from both PA and MD responded on the first alarm and
found a barn well off on arrival. Crews worked for hours to control the fire and hit hot spots.

Working Barn Fire, Lancaster County, PA 06.25.2009

SARDIS, WV -- At 00:03 hours on Saturday June 20th, Company 8 (Reynoldsville VFD), Engine 41 (Lumberport
VFD), Engine 131 (Summit Park VFD), and Engine 141 (Wallace VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on
Sardis Road in Sardis. Chief 8 (McNemar) arrived on scene and advised HC911 of a 2-story dwelling 75% in
fire with pending exposures and requested Engine 71 and Tanker 7 (Nutter Fort VFD) to be added to the
alarm. Engine 73 (w/6-AC Richards) and Tanker 7 (w/2-FF Garrett) hit the streets seconds later. Engine 73
arrived on scene as 3rd due engine and sent its manpower inside to assist with interior attack while
supplying RVFD Engine 81 with water. Tanker 7 then arrived on scene and took over water supply. Once
inside crews were faced with heavy fire conditions in the attic and the rear of the 1st floor while other crews
were beginning ventilation. After getting the fire knocked 73’s crew assisted in a very lengthy overhaul
hitting the numerous hotspots that remained and opened up all ceilings and walls. After containing the
difficult fire, crews assisted Co. 8 in packing up of all their equipment before finally being released at 04:10.

Working House Fire, Harrison County, WV 06.20.2009

UPPER CHICHESTER, PA -- Just after 4 am, Companies 40(Boothwyn), 55(Ogden), 61(Reliance), RIT
45(Parkside), & Medic 100C were dispatched to Beech Street in the First Due Local for a confirmed working
house fire. Engine 40-1 with Chief 40(Powers) hit the street in no time, on the Engine's arrival the Chief
advised he had a Single Family Dwelling Fully Involved going into defensive operations and asked for PECO
asap due to the live wires down. Everyone was also reported out of the house. While the Engine crew was
going in service, the Chief established the "Beech Street Command" and added Rescue 39(Linwood) and
Truck Co. 68(MHTFD), also bringing Medics 100 & 100-7 to the fire ground. The crew from 40-1 worked quickly
setting up the 2 1/2 with the Blitzfire, Deck Gun, and another 2 inch attack line to start attacking the raging
fire. Squrt 61 arrived next and dropped a 5 inch supply line from Pleasant Ave to feed Engine 40-1. Due to the
distance from the hydrant, Rescue 40 hand jacked 200 ft. of 5 inch to complete the lay for the Squrt. Engine
55-1 arrived next and they also brought in their own supply line to assist with the master stream operations.
Squrt 61 set up the boom to assist as well. Upper Chichester 9(Small) arrived on scene and took over at the
Command Post. The Crew from 39 & 68 assisted the Township Crews with placing several Master Streams in
service. Beech Street Command also called for Canteen 67(Woodlyn) to assist on the fire ground. Command
placed the Job under control in about 2 hours. Good job to everyone that worked on scene. Thanks to Squad
50(Middletown) for covering our local while we operated on scene.

BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, PA -- Early Monday evening June 22nd, Freemansburg Fire District 12 along with
Engine 6311 from Steel City were dispatched to a dwelling fire in the 100 block of Oak Street. Shortly after the
dispatch 1251 (Chief Ron Beahm) arrived on scene to find a working fire in a 3 story townhouse style
dwelling with everyone evacuated from the dwellings. 1251 assumed command and requested Truck 1421
and Engine 1412 be added to the alarm. Engine 1212 was first to arrive on scene and had a quick knock down
on the fire. Squad 1241 took a position in the rear of the dwelling to knock down the exterior portion of the
fire and protect the exposure dwellings. 1452 (Asst. Chief Jamie Hauze) arrived in Operations 1444 shortly
after the squad unit and assisted with the primary attack and ventilation. Truck 1421's crew worked on
venting the roof while engine crews from 6311 and 1412 provided additional manpower for the incident. The
fire was brought under control and deemed out in approximately 30 minutes. The fire damage was contained
to just one unit out of the four unit townhouse with some smoke and water damage to another unit.

EAST AVON, NY -- On Thursday afternoon, June 25, East Avon firefighters and Avon EMS were dispatched to
a barn fire on the Mulligan Farm at 5403 Barber Road. East Avon Fire Chief Tim Holtz arrived on location and
reported a fully-involved barn. Firefighters focused efforts on protecting other structures in the farm
complex. Mutual aid was requested to the scene, bringing additional personnel and tankers from Avon,
Rush, Caledonia, Lima, Ionia, Livonia, Mumford and Lakeville fire departments. Water was shuttled to the
scene from a hydrant on Rochester Street, located about a mile from the fire. Investigators from the
Livingston County Office of Emergency Management believe that the fire was sparked by a lightning strike,
as thunderstorms were moving through the area at the time the fire was reported. There were no injuries.

CAERNARVON TOWNSHIP, PA -- Just as the sun was coming up over the Twin Valley horizon, at 5:45AM the
Twin Valley Fire Department along with Elverson EMS, Honey Brook EMS and Brandywine Medics were
dispatched for an auto accident with entrapment and the intersections of Main Street and Crossings BLVD in
Caernarvon Township. Chief and Assistant 69 were first to arrive and found two subjects heavily trapped in
two separate vehicles. Chief 69 set up "route 23 command" and requested two medical helicopters to the
scene. Rescue 69 arrived minutes later with a crew of 8. The rescue's crew split, with four members working
on one car and four working on the other car. The rescue's crew removed the patients from wreckage in just
over fifteen minutes. Deputy 69A and Brush 69 landed the helicopter(Skycare 1) in the Morgantown
crossings parking lot. The second Helicopter was cancelled, it was determined that the second patient had
succumbed to their injuries. Rescue 69 went available 6:48 am. The Twin Valley Fire Department sends its
condolences to the families and victims lost in this accident.
