BIGLERVILLE, PA -- It is with deep regret that we advise you that a 24 year old Firefighter Adam Cole of the
Buchanan Valley VFD (Adams County, PA) was tragically killed in the Line of Duty last night (10.04.2007) while
responding to the firehouse for a wild land fire call. Firefighter Cole's personal vehicle crossed over the
centerline on a curve and struck an oncoming vehicle. Firefighter Cole was extricated and transported but
did not survive the crash. FF Cole was reported as to have not been wearing his seat belt and his vehicle
speed was a contributing factor. The civilian in the second vehicle was not seriously injured.
The BVFC is planning a Firefighter's funeral for Cole, a three-year firefighter who was recently accepted to
train for the DCFD according to BVVFD sources. MORE INFORMATION

heavy smoke in the area as they were laying in from the hydrant. Quint 10 arrived first on-scene and report
ed heavy fire from the 1st and 2nd division on sides B, C and D of a two story brick duplex. Quint 10 placed 1
- 1 ¾” handline into service and began fire attack on the 2nd division. A 2nd handline was placed into
service by Quint 14 on division 1. Batt. 2 arrived on-scene and requested the upgrade companies be
dispatched bringing Quint 15, Rescue 1, Batt. 1, and Air light 11. Rescue 2 and Quint 5 personnel completed a
primary search of division 2 then assisted in fire attack. Shortly after Rescue 1’s arrival, they began a
secondary search of division 2 when the floor collapsed. One firefighter fell through the floor and injured his
elbow. One additional company (Quint 6) was then requested to assist with staffing. It was found that the
building was under renovation and the hardwood floors were refinished earlier in the day. The large amount
flammable liquids and combustable materials used to refinish the floors contributed to the quick fire spread
and intense fire conditions. Crews remained on-scene for several hours doing overhaul of the building.
